Have you ever purged your handbag collection and regretted it afterwards?

I've purged a few times and have had no regrets. I have also purged a ton to fund one bag (my black Coach Minnie Rogue) and didn't regret that either. I have two garbage bags full to go to the consignment store now. I do't think I will miss what I let go. My last purge resulted in me being able to purchase three Rogue bags I would not have been able to buy had I not purged (I got the Rogues at consignment). I have no regrets. I can't remember what I even brought in for sale to the consignment store. Those bags obviously didn't really matter to me at all.

This is what makes me want to get rid of them, to some degree, knowing more clearly what I will want in the future. I don't use them enough to warrant them taking up space on my shelf. I want to get down to some essential bags I really love carrying, not bags I sometimes like to carry and feel guilty about not carrying. I have added up what all of the bags and accessories I'm going to sell will bring in, as well as another hobby of mine that I'm purging, and it is staggering how much money I will get from everything. I feel like once I sell everything I don't love, it will help me think more clearly about what I really, truly love in a bag, and I will know what to avoid going forward, or what to buy, like with your Rogues. This applies to my other hobby, as well. I think it will be so freeing, but for some reason still am unsure about these two bags. The answer will come to me soon, tho, I think.

I would only get rid of bags never used. There are bags I use rarely, but when they fit a certain outfit or function I'm glad to own them. Five bags would seem depressing after seeing all the variety available.

Lol if I sell these two bags, my collection will be sitting pretty at four--three I currently own and a fourth I plan on buying at the first discount. But all four bags will fill a role: one everyday casual crossbody, one large casual clutch, one small casual crossbody/clutch, and my planned purchase is a casual tote with crossbody capabilities. From there, I can be extremely selective in my purchasing process, thinking, "Would I rather carry this new bag, or would I still prefer one of my current bags over this one?" Because if I would rather carry one I already own than the new one, the new one will be doomed to only being carried once every blue moon and the guilt starts again. My wardrobe is mostly black, gray, and white, so no matter what bag I pick it will go just fine with my outfits. It's crazy how trivial bags are, but this is a difficult thing to decide haha.

I'm purging at the moment. With most bags it's a process, not a quick decision. If I'm not sure about a bag, I use it and then, for a week or two, imagine how it would be to live without it. If the thought doesn't sting or hurt or make me feel like I'd be missing the bag it's going.

At one point, I had over 70 Coach bags and an insane amount of wristlets, wallets, key fobs, and other accessories. I used every one, and if I didn't I sold it, and I changed bags every day. About 4 or 5 years ago, I began a dark descent into the world of Louis Vuitton, and I sold off all but maybe 3 of my favorite Coach bags and most of the SLG's. Two years later, LV completely lost it's appeal to me, and I found myself missing the thick, chewy Coach leather. I regret selling my Coach bags every day. I only bought bags when I found them at amazing prices, so I really did have a bargain collection of bags I loved, and I missed them. I've begin collecting again, but often I come across bags on eBay that I used to own and wish I'd never let them go. The struggle is very real.

For the record, I sold off all of my LV collection other than my Mon Mono Neverfull (12 bags and probably 6 or 8 wallets) about 2 years ago and I don't miss them at all. For me, it's the way a bag feels that makes me fall in love with it, and the LV canvas just doesn't have that appeal for me. Even LV leather doesn't feel as good to me as Coach. Just personal opinion.

I have many bags I gave up that I don't miss at all. It isn't so much I didn't like them when I owned them, just that I obviously didn't really need them if I could give them up and forget about them later :-)

I have just under 150. My goal was to get below 100 but I don't see that happening for awhile since I can't figure out which ones to part with next.
I know! I go through the ones I have stored in little boxes (that are then stored in a medium sized plastic storage box) every so often to try to part with more, but I think I've reached my purging plateau for now. THEN they come out with a new one that you just have to have.....Like Pluto.

Sorry in advance for rambling. So, I am attempting to minimalize my life and starting (or rather, still struggling) with my overflow of bags and accessories. Currently, I am down to five bags. Three of these are definite keepers (an every day black crossbody, a large clutch, and a small crossbody/clutch). The other two are the same model of bag, just different colors (blue and red). I love the shapes and colors and functionality, but I just don't wear them as often as my others. But when I put them on to look in the mirror, I still really like them, and when I do eventually switch out with my black bag, find I like carrying them. But I never carry them for long, like I do my others. So I'm torn. On one hand, I want to minimalize as much as possible so I can enjoy the bags I do wear more often, but on the other hand, I still really like these bags. I'm worried I'll regret selling these. Have you ever purged handbags you liked but never used and regretted it? Or did you find you enjoyed your other pieces even more?
I feel you. I only have 6 bags right now, plus 5 SLGs. Each of them serve different purposes. It makes me really happy when I see my bags age and show signs of using. It kinda gives them more personalities. I used to buy bags on impulse, and sell them later. Now I won't buy them until I'm super sure. lol
