have the "contemporary" mid-level bags lost their following?

Ahhh I wasn’t around for the legacy revival lol In 2012 i discovered Alexander Wang and I absolutely love his stuff. It wasn’t till I saw that oxblood Borough bag on Jessica alba that I was like HEY COACH, how you doin? Lol before that I had avoided coach since 2009. I’ve never left
coach ever again ♥️♥️

How is your chalk holding up? That’s the only color I’m
Missing. You have the Rogue with the oxblood and the rivets? That one is gorgeousssss. Love Coach Oxblood! I have the grey suede Rogue, the melon Rogue (full price before it was on any sale :: cry:: ), and the 3 Rogue Satchels. But I also have a Mercer 30, rhyder, 2 market
Totes, 2 swaggers, I just love Coach all around.
Realllllly want a Cooper and a Parker next. The plain black Parker would
Suit me fine since I need a little black
Bag for going out ♥️♥️ (And it’s 150 less than the quilted same
Size!)
Chalk is holding up well, I love that satchel. I have two Swaggers, one regular sized in nude colorblock, and the 27 size in black with the colorful edgestain in turquoise, green and white. That's my summer Swagger. At then end of the SAS in December, I was able to snag a market tote in grass green with the Rexy charm on it. It's a great bag, I love it for work.

I bought 5 Florentine Dooneys in 2014, and now I am going back to Dooney.
I also want ppl to know that Coach 1941 is totally different than regular Coach. Have you sold any 1941? The prices for Coach’s 1941 on eBay are really good for the sellers not so much for the buyers lol but I think 1941 is reselling well.
I don’t sell at all, usually if I don’t like it I return it (all Rebecca Minkoff that I could return I did), or give it away.
Aside from maybe 4-5 bags I want to add to my collection (2 Dooney large Florentine satchels!) I am going to be shopping in my closet for 2018.
I remember that “chase”
Of always having to have a new bag and I don’t feel that anymore at all. Personally it’s because I have everything I want and new trendy stuff isn’t up my alley and the quality has just gone to the dogs.
Buy classics and you will always have something chic to wear. Plus “they just don’t make bags like they used to”... except Coach 1941 and Dooney! Those brands are kicking ass.

I had a rather large Dooney Florentine collection too! But I had to purge even though it broke my heart - I sold a lot including: Dooney, MK, Coach legacy, RM, Botkier, Kate Spade, Treesje & a few MBMJ.

I do love new Coach 1941 bags but I’m trying to stay on the wagon [emoji849]. Today after seeing this thread, I looked at Dooney and oh my Lord [emoji15] I want 4-5 of these Emerson Kayla bags [emoji38][emoji38][emoji38]

As a person who sells bags on eBay, I can tell you the only bag that sells right now is Dooney. Followed by Brahmin. They are usually gone before I am done with my listings for the day.
Everything else sits for a long time and usually sells for the minimum I have set eventually.
No brand Is free of quality issues, even the old standbys. Vintage is the way many have chosen to go because of quality issues.
The economy is good in many places and most are willing to wait for a good bag to go on sale at a boutique or major department store since sales are so frequent.
Murphy were my friends able to help you at Coach with getting a Rogue Satchel? You never wrote me back.

If you read the article, she explains.

The fundamental challenge for luxury brands targeting the U.S. affluent consumers is that their underlying value system has changed. In the mindset of American affluents, the qualities that luxury brands have used traditionally to drive appeal and demand for their brands is meaningless.

Old luxury is, well, old and its ideas are outmoded. Today’s affluent Americans demand luxury in a brand new style.

The traditional positioning for luxury brands has taken on a sinister hue being associated with the demonized 1%-ers. Speaking in political terms, traditional luxury brand positioning has high negatives associated with elitism, extravagence, conspicuous consumption, exclusivity, and status seeking.

And later, she goes on:

Contemporary American affluents are looking for a more understated expression of luxury. Rather than conspicuous consumption and status symbols that proclaim one’s wealth, the affluent are embracing brands that give them bragging rights to how smart a shopper he or she is.

Luxury doesn’t have to come in a fancy package that you have and own, but in an experience that one shares and enjoys. And that experience doesn’t have to be a stay at a five-start luxury hotel, but more often it's an Airbnb lodging where the travelers are embedded in the local culture, far removed from the tourists. Airbnb’s "Don't go to Paris, don't tour Paris and please, don't do Paris. Live in Paris" is spot on for the new luxury mindset.

Traditional luxury brands get the idea of exclusivity wrong too. Exclusivity in new luxury style is not about excluding people from enjoying and participating with the brand. Rather by participating with a luxury brand, consumers self select to join an exclusive community where members are linked by shared values and ideas of quality and craftsmanship the brand represents.
She misspelled extravagance. SMH.

I used to be a great fab of Kooba, but other bags from LV have caught my attention. Best two Koobas I ever bought were Johnnies. Still have them. Still use them.
I really wanted one of those jonnies a few years back. I actually bought one on ebay. It was described as excellent and priced accordingly. When I got the package my heart sunk. It was squashed into a too-small box. When I opened it, there was a noticeable spot right on the front. I contacted the seller (a small seller with no experience in selling bags). She blamed the carrier. Like they took it out of the box and marked it. She begrudgingly gave me a refund. That was the end of Jonny for me. I eventually lost interest.

Ugh. So sorry that happened to you. I have two. A navy and a caramel colored bag. They make great carry bags, too, and I have been complimented to this day whenever I wear one. I am sorry this happened to you and I don't think that it is the bag's fault....just those who decide to retire them and give them up for a better home are not classy enough to pack them in the condition that they deserve.

I was at the local consignment store last week. They had a jonnie in what I'd describe as olive green for $100. Somewhat tempting but I was there to try to sell. Ironically, I was bringing them a more expensive bag in a similar color. But said to myself maybe if I go back and they've reduced the price I might take that Kooba bag. I like that outside pocket.
