I agree with you guys, I don't have a single Coach bag but am severely tempted by several models. Unfortunately there are some people who make hideously misinformed presumptions based on nothing at all.

I think a lot of tPF members forget that we have many, many guests that regularly read posts/threads without 'showing themselves' by signing up and logging in. Personally, I think members become a lot more informed by actually joining in.

Don't let it bother you. A statement like that with a qualifier just means she's insecure.
We all have our opinions about various brands and individual bags, and should buy and carry what we like.

I have a fairly large LV collection, and yet I just bought 8 new Rogues because I had buyer's panic about them being discontinued - why because I love Coach 1941 and the Rogue in particular. At the same time there are a few luxury labels (which I won't name) that I wouldn't carry if free.

There's this very strange need among many handbag enthusiasts to tie their personal identity and self-worth to the expense or perceived exclusivity of their bags that's just plain weird.

You’re absolutely right, I’ve noticed this too - some people get personally offended if “their” brand changes direction, and buy into the perception that it in some way conveys a status that entitles them to be sniffy to others. It’s stupid but I suppose it just shows the power of advertising and social media in particular on the easily influenced.
I’ve seen people rebuked by admins for not being sufficiently “welcoming” on tpf and yet the blog publishes this drivel knowing it will cause upset? Really? What on earth is the point in that?

7 years ago i got my first luxury(to me) handbag from my husband in Christmas, it was the Coach poppy black crossbody , since the first day i carried with me almost everywhere, after that i got a MK orange shoulder bag, then on another Christmas i got a beautiful Tory Burch black tote, and after that 2 more very affordable handbags from express, i haven’t bought any high end bags until last week that i decided to retire my poppy since it was very used, broken zipper, etc., and i went with Coach, i got 2 Rouges in black and oxblood both in 25, i know Coach is considered a contemporary brand but for me these 2 bags in particular are pure luxury, they are gorgeous and very well made, maybe next year i can afford some LV or YSL, i want a small handbag collection, maybe 10 handbags at most(ww’ll see how that goes lol) but im going to really try to focus on quality over quantity.

Exactly! You said out the word in my mouth.
What's the point to bring such a bad influence to the spot light? what's that for? what kind of culture the purseblog site is trying to establish? @Vlad

Just to comment again about the “With my social and economic standing, do I look like I need to carry a fake?“ statement. I remember years ago, when Ozzy ozborune and his family had a reality show, I would watch it religiously. There was an episode when sharon(Izzy’s wife) was talking to her daughter about a time when they went on vacation to China and saw all the fake LVs and how they bought a ton of them out of a thrill! Take that for socioeconomic standing!

Vlad posted more about it here. I still don't agree and I'm bummed about the decision, but he explains why they posted it.

Thank you for the info.
Well, I don't agree with their decision either.
It's just the same thinking like we all know some dumba** are racist, but we don't need a public article to let these racists speak their opinion. It's called public responsibility.
It exists doesn't really mean it worth an article to post it to public. especially if the post is mutual toned, not even criticizing it.
Bad decision and I really felt disappointed.

She claims to be almost 30, but sounds much younger and far more immature. And the entire post smacked of insecurity. I read bits of it out to my SO, and he rolled his eyes - $75k/yr salary but upgrades to 1st class every flight and brags about her SES? He brought up that it sounds like she's living above her means and trying to project a status that isn't really hers.

What reaaaaally got to me was that Walmart comment - it came off as condescending and judgey from someone with so little life experience. Some Walmart greeters are retirees who realized retirement doesn't suit them. Heck, my mom decided to work at the mall after her kids grew up and moved out...just for something to do. And yes, mom owns a bit of everything from Coach to Chanel.

People like this exist whether we like it or not. She sounds young emotionally and heavily influenced by status symbols. Perhaps this discussion will make it's way to her eyes and she will reassess her thoughts and a bit of self reflection. The world and the internet cannot be whitewashed into unicorns and rainbows.

Everyone judges in one way or another.

I, too, am very disappointed in this publication. It’s one thing to write about and say bad things about certain brands BUT it crosses the line when one starts to bring in a person’s economic status and makes fun of those individuals. Rich or poor, we all love our handbags and take pleasure on what we each have and own. I feel like it’s a slap in the face for those individuals who work very hard to achieve their goals of owning a certain handbag, like they aren’t allowed to own certain bags because they work at Walmart???

As an individual with a stressful home life due to the care of my elderly parents, I look forward to reading purseblog as an escape to this stress. This article not only left me disappointed but makes me wonder what kind of individual thinks it’s ok to publish this? It feels like it’s fun and games for them to watch our reactions to this article. I hope in the future they take this into consideration before publishing articles making fun of an individual’s economic status.

I was debating on posting on this, since I don't usually discuss my income etc. I honestly don't understand her philosophy on brands or what is wealth. I buy Chanel, LV and Hermes, but I also buy Coach. I like Coach leather. I think she believes that once you get into a certain financial bracket your material things should show it. Well I have news for her. I am where I believe she wants to be and I enjoy buying Coach. I don't care what she thinks. I like going to the boutique and getting an outlet deal when the opportunity is there. Buy what you like and don't let shallow people dictate what brands are more worthy than others.

SoMe people find joy in acting condescending towards others. Many people with the best style (imo) buy used/vintage and have the ability to make less high end pieces look high end just by styling them well. It doesnt matter if you buy high end , low end, comtemporary, classic etc, as long as it makes you happy! She is entitled to her opinion for sure, but could have expressed it in a classier way without demeaning what others may like or be able to afford. It is impossible and unnecessary to make snap judgements about people based on what they, have , where they shop or work, or what they like! Again just my opinion
