Has anyone gotten an ear infection from VCA earrings?

I’ve been having problems with itchy and bleeding ear lopes since my first vca earring purchase 2 years ago and I kept thinking it was the result of tight backs or thick posts on the earrings. However I started to read up more on it and it looks more like an allergy.. I mean my ears bleed on the second day of wear every time!

Any tips pls ? I saw a product called Sensa Guard which is like a coating you can put on the earring posts .. but it sounds like nail polish as people mentioned it smells of strong alcohol.. would it damage the earrings ?

I currently have 3 pairs of vca earrings … 2 vintage Alhambra size and 1 frivole .. I don’t want to waste them… :(

Any advice would be appreciated ! I have tried loosening the back and also changing the post to a thinner one … both doesn’t help…

Thanks for your help! :)

Just curious, do you wear 18k gold earrings other than VCA? I'm asking because my mom has super sensitive skin and she can only wear 22k+ and platinum, anything else would give her allergic reaction. Sensa Guard is basically glorified base coat, you might as well just use your regular base coat on the earring posts to see if it helps. I don't think it would damage the posts as the clear coat will wear off on its own but worst case scenario, you can always bring them in to VCA boutique to have them replace the posts for you once in a few years.

Yes I wear other 18K gold earrings too but have never had problems .. even with those Chanel fashion jewellery earrings I don’t have problems either .. so I am surprised I have an allergy to VCA metal .. I bought 3 pairs, one in WG, one in YG and one in RG- and I have allergy to all 3 of them.. :(

That sucks..It does sound like you're allergic to the alloys used in their metals. I would give clear coat a try though, the posts are relatively easy and cheap to replace so that's what I would try first. You may also check with your SA to inquire the workshop if they can make some platinum posts for your earrings. Even if it costs more at least you won't have to worry about putting clear coat on the posts and then replacing the posts if they get damaged.

Talk to your SA and ask VCA to switch the posts to platinum. Years ago my SA told me they could. I never ended up doing it because my ears were fine with the WG posts but it’s worth a try. They may charge you but if it eliminates the problem it would be worth it.

Thanks so much for your advice ! I will talk to my SA, though when I previously told them the issue they never mentioned about being able to replace the posts by platinum.. and they told me not to buy any
more earrings as I likely will have allergy and will be a waste. Will follow up with SA! Thanks a lot !

Maybe the SA haven't dealt with clients that need platinum posts before so they didn't know it's a viable option. If your SA insist that they don't offer it, you can always contact customer service line to confirm if it's possible then send them straight to the head quarter for repair, bypassing the boutique.

Are you entirely certain that it's an allergy and not the earrings needing adjustment? I have had a similar problem - bleeding and itchiness, particularly after multiple days of wearing, but getting the posts changed out to thinner posts and tension adjusted (i.e., loosened) has solved the problem on every pair of VCA earrings I own. Just sounds like this might be more likely the case for you since you can wear costume jewelry with no problem.

I could be wrong but I think @Meowmeowj has mentioned in the previous post that she has already tried adjusting the tension and changed to the thinner posts but that hasn't resolve the problem.
