Guys - There are times when things are too good to be true. A true owner of an expensive item would know the value and list accordingly or just send it to resellers/consignment stores. Meanwhile, there are cheap items where the sources are not legitimate, such as stolen goods; Some savings are not worth your sleep at night or your (or your spouse's) political/legal career, for example. And, there are items where the value is too large to use PayPal and you have to deposit portion of the price with PayPal and the rest with bank transfer, then you have no recourse should what you receive is not what the photos show. There are many lessons on tPF about that.
Moreover, the most important factor that determine the price of a luxury item (of course besides vintage or rarity) is condition. I won't buy a rag Hermes regardless of how rare/sought-after/cheap it is. There will always be a better one in the future.

now back to topic.
the one i was talking about was like new condition and authenticated! yes you are correct, it may not be what you receive but a month later the end of auction, the buyer left this feedback on the sellers ''absolutely authentic croc birkin for a bargain''. welll!!!!! maybe the source wast legit but a birkin in porosu at that price was a steal for sure. or may be it was an uwanted gift? god knows

A pink porosus croc birkin is my dream bag. And at 10,200 my dream would have come true. Sometimes you can get lucky, but most of the time the price reflects what you will be getting. Unfortunately, most of the time you would be purchasing a replica at this price. It's not worth the risk.

i would love to know what actually happens when fakes get reported.
i have done this twice now and never heard anything back from ebay. also, both items sold. :nogood:
what gives?

If you want to discuss fakes/reporting, try the Ebay sub forum. Thanks.

It's my understanding that e-bay has relationships with certain individuals who can truly authenticate specific items. If you think about it, anyone with a grudge could report an item as fake even if it's real. I wouldn't expect e-bay to simply pull an item listing because someone out of the blue tells them it's not real.

Years ago I listed a Chanel purse I'd purchased at the 57th Street boutique in Manhattan. The listing was pulled by e-bay and I was told it was not authentic. When I offered to fax them a copy of the receipt (and even gave them the name of my sales person) they said no dice and if I tried to list it again they'd pull my account.

The same thing happened years later when I listed a beautiful satin Chanel eyeglass case with a crystal CC logo. My mom and I had purchased identical ones years earlier at the Chanel boutique on Worth Ave in Palm Beach. Mine was used and became thread bare and was long gone. When my mom passed I found she still had hers in the box, brand new and unused. So I listed that item for sale and the exact same thing happened, e-bay pulled it and said if I tried to list it again they'd pull my account. I brought the case in to the manager of the 57th Street boutique and told her what happened and she said they hadn't seen eyeglass cases like this in years and years and couldn't imagine why I wanted to sell it! So I kept it and use it every day. Makes me think of my mom every time it's in my hand.

Long story short, e-bay is not perfect and they can pull legitimate listings as I've had happen twice. I'm sure they've gotten into legal issues with copyrighting many times over. So with legal teams and certified authenticators we can only hope that they have their house in order and keep e-bay a safe selling place for all of us in all respects.

Come on, guys - there is an entire sub forum devoted to this. This thread is specifically for items that you believe 100 per cent to be counterfeit, not reporting mechanisms.

Thanks.
