chestnutty, texasgirliegirl or anybody else:
can you please let the uninitiated know how you come to the conclusion that this is a fake?
i would definitely fall for this - so PLEASE let ‘us' know what you see…
thank you!

Typically, we don't specify what makes something fake, especially with bags. I know that the scarf authenticators do sometimes point out features of a scarf inconsistent with an authentic design.

The forum is open to the public; anyone can and does join, access, read, contribute. We have seen photos posted here used elsewhere, and certainly information that is posted here is free to be used by others. We really don't want to create a better fake, if you KWIM.

Hope that helps explain our thinking. If the other authenticators feel that they want to provide details, they are free to do so, of course, but as I said, when it comes to bags and in general on the forum, we don't specify what makes something fake.

yes, of course... can someone please get me a hammer... :noggin:
i actually just came back here, trying to delete my post because after reading the intro of this thread, i do feel a bit stupid... so obvious.

however, once my PM is enabled, i would appreciate a private message on this topic and no, i am NOT in the business of counterfeiting but possibly in the business of 'being' counterfeited...

No need to feel stupid!

We really just don't discuss what makes something authentic or not, either publicly on the boards or (speaking for myself) via PM.

If you look at enough authentic items, you will begin to see why the fakes are, well, fake. Have a look through the photo libraries; there are a lot of good examples of both real and, in the fakes threads, fake items.

another question:
i find myself drawn to many of christine henry's designs but thanks to posts in this very thread, i am now ruling out trying to get “la légende du poisson corail” or “l’arbre de vie"…
but how about “rives fertiles” or the more recent “nuées imaginaires”? can these be purchased with some peace of mind or have they, too, been... aehm… ‘copied'?

I have intentionally posted a photo that contains the most visible sign of fake for each fake listing. All you have to do is find an authentic one in the same silk format and compared yourself. Have fun learning.

thanks chestnutty!
the "parures des maharajas" has sold, btw.
i compared your pic of it with the original item still available at hermès (online)... this level of deception makes ebay a scary place. :-(

the thread of reputable sellers is closed (last edited sep. 2012) and i am not finding the ones i would like to check up on. where/whom can i ask about the legitimacy of a specific seller?
(i get the idea that some specialize in hermès or high end items in general but looking at their feedback is not always conclusive as i learned here... an extended database/thread on sellers that got the thumps-up by 'you guys' would be swell... :-))

I have NO idea how the person who declared this item a fake made this determination.
Generally I stay safe by buying from the boutiques. I would have thought that item was genuine.
The dear authenticators here provide such a nice service for those of us who don't yet have such a trained eye...Personally I would not purchase anything from ebay without having it authenticated here first.

you can rest assured that every successful design gets copied. sometimes even years after it has been issued.
the reason why we have a thread like the authenticate a scarf is to give a certain level of comfort when buying.
furthermore, there are enough sellers out there beyond any doubt. if you search the post ebay web finds thread, you will realize that more experienced members post these sellers pretty often.
