I think men should carry what they feel confident they can pull off. My DH carries my bag sometimes when we shop and has had other men say "nice purse" to him. Well, he's 6'5 and 240 lbs and he just says "Thanks, I think it is a nice bag too." He has yet to have another man call him "gay" for carrying my purse.
I don't think men should be afraid to carry whatever bag they can pull off. I know my DH likes to help me pick out my bags and I say, let them have their bags too.
I might look twice at a man who carries a bag on his arm like a woman does, but what the heck, we wear men's styles and pull it off!!!

UR DH is very Bold...good example though

My LV Utah messenger bag is defenitly a guy bag. The LV Brooklyn that I want is listed as a guy bag at LV but many ladies do carry it. I would consider it a guy bag or a unisex bag. What is everyone elses opinion about this bag (I posted a picture of it earlier in this thread. Also what about my Gucci waist/fanny pack. Would you consider this style a guy style , ladies or unisex. I also posted a pic of it. I'm very confident carrying these bags but would like to see what everyone else thinks.

I personally do not think it's "gay." My father carries a "man purse" and he actually looks great carrying it and it keeps all his health stuff on him and important files for work. I think the younger generation is more open to accepting this type of thing where as the older generation is not. I'm only saying that based on my mother and step-father. I don't think this is because they are bad people, just grew up where it wasn't accepted. I even plan to buy my Dad a nicer messenger bag since he loves his so much.
Just be confident in you and what you carry, it's no one elses business.

I am a male and I usually wear a messenger bag as well. Nobody has said anything about it. I also have a pretty nice burgundy leather portfolio/attache thing and nobody says anything about that either. Interested in learning more about bags.

I'm really not sure how carrying a bag has anything to do with one's sexual orientation :shrugs:

when I see a man carrying a hot bag I think, "hot bag"... not "he's gay"

A man who enjoys fashion and accessories like bags, skincare and looking good is more metrosexual to me than homosexual. I would think this is becoming more of the norm in many cities.

i don't think too many people find it gay to carry a messenger bag or backpack. but when they see a man carrying a woman's purse or even a tote bag, people start to wonder. i've seen guys carrying a woman's purse on their forearm and i have to say it does look odd. i like guys who carry messenger bags though- it's practical and having a designer one would not automatically make a man gay although some non-fashion forward people may think so.

I personally like the bags.

A lot of the surgeons I work with here have leather messenger bags and as far as I know none are gay. I never even think of that, I know they have a lot of stuff to carry, especially the ones who take residents. We are pretty East Coast here, though not as fashion savvy as NYC.

my DH doesnt carry murse. it's about preference, not lifestyle, I guess. or still for him, he couldnt understand why a handbag could cost thousands dollar and he spends enough for his wife (me =D) ... haha ... he carries sporty style backpack or duffelbag to work.

i LOVE guys carrying bags!!!

i bought my husband a CAMPOMAGGI. it took him FOREVER to use it because he thought it was too gay.

but now he loves it

and he calls it his purse!

we'll be leaving the house and he'll be like "where's my purse?" -- he says it as a joke but its become part of our venacular now. cracks me up

women get to wear jeans -- i don't think its fair that men aren't allowed to carry bags! besides, in the history of bags... didn't it start with men carting them around? i'm not sure!
