Goodbye to my purses...

I have continued to buy a few bags/SLGs even though I am not really leaving my house and when I do it's outdoor dog park activity or grocery/doctors etc.... I recently bought the most beautiful Fendi bag and it is sitting on display in my closet waiting for it's moment. When I see it I just smile and get giddy. I get that feeling about the bag that I am sure many of us OGs feel. A little shiver and you want to just touch it !!!!! It really transports me to a future where Covid is hopefully a very small blip that we have to handle like a season flu. I cannot wait to carry that bag around NYC, LA, Vegas and Tokyo. I need that feeling and my purses help keep me connected.

Hi eveyone,

So covid-19 pandemic has really changed my relationship with purses and I wanted to see if anyone else felt the same:

Now that social activities mostly consists of going on long walks outside, I don’t really have a need for any of my nice bags anymore.

About a year ago my health changed and I now need to carry around more medical supplies than I used to. So since then, I have barely used any of my cute small bags- which used to be all that I carried!

Now, if I’m walking outside for a long time, my back and shoulders hurt if I need to carry a heavy bag, and I have just been using small back packs. Plus now carrying hand sanitizer, masks etc, I just need a practical lightweight bag.

So I feel really bummed that my lovely little collection of purses (all except 2 that I haven’t had the time to sell) that I genuinely adore is just sitting around collecting dust :/

What’s a girl to do? Does anyone else have a similar experience?
I’m in my 40s and no longer like to carry larger bags. If I do carry a larger bag it will be an extremely lightweight bag like the goyard st. Louis in the pm size. Aside from St. Louis totes, most of my bags are small to extra small and all can be worn crossbody. Virtually all of my bags are collecting dust right now, but I think that will change...so I’m not selling anything right now. Maybe in time you can replace the bags you loved and sold with bags that you love that better suit your lifestyle and current needs.

I hope you're stable now and feeling better in terms of your health.

i totally understand you. i didnt have any mood to do shopping nor buy bags during the period of lockdown (for reference im buying new bags almost every month on the regular), and basically slept past 2pm on a daily basis. i was mildly depressed as i could not go out to work and my job doesnt allow for me to work remotely.

even pre-covid, sometimes i would look at the sheer number of bags i have and feel overwhelmed. or when my bag wardrobe has no more space to display the new bag i just bought home. that is when i would go into the mood of decluttering and selling. however because such feelings do come and go very quickly, sometimes i do get seller's remorse and its made worse when you've sold some rare or limited bags. once sold, it could be challenging to acquire them again. i've done that a couple of times and end up bag hunting for years to get the same model that i've sold in the past and trust me - its even more frustrating.

i've learnt it the hard way so for now, i would just wait it out a few months and only sell something when i am certain that im happy to let it go. i hope that helps you somewhat.

Sorry about your health issue. Hope you ll get better.

I feel the same way...and I bought an extra-large garden party in the beginning of COVID....thought I ll be back to work soon...now it is sitting there...however, I did buy more little ones for going on a walk. the perfect size is: bags can fit in my large phone, card case, mask, and lip balm.

I know at the moment it feels like this is going to be our life forever. But yes I am optimistic. Being a doctor I believe in science. Humans have defeated so many diseases and we will defeat this one. Scientists expect cases to be down to almost 0 in the US after 6 months. So let's stay optimistic and have patience in the coming weeks

Happy that you believe in science. I believe in it too, and I couldn't be more excited with the progress that has been made. As you may know, mRNA vaccines are new and we owe this technology to a woman scientist, Katalin Kariko.:yahoo:

Katalin Kariko had a very difficult career path in science (several grant rejections, demotion, etc); unfortunately, this is still common for many women in science. I'm very happy and proud, and if all goes according to plan, we will likely have a new female Nobel Prize laureate. Cheers to Katalin Kariko! :drinks:

Haha, I used to make fun of my mother when she would buy things by weight, the lightest phone, jacket, etc. I'm now starting to do the same and many of my bags are also collecting dust. I used to love 227 reissues, but I can't remember when was the last time I used one. They are now too heavy for me.

Yup...sounds familiar. My mom is the same way and I used to find it amusing...only now the joke is on me! It’s funny how we turn into our moms!

I have changed how I look at my purses/slgs since COVID for a few reasons. I am a high risk single mom so only go out for absolute necessities. I try to have as much delivered as possible. I have only been using tiny Longchamp or my LV Pochette Accessories because there is no need to use larger items now that I don't shop or work in an office.

However, the other reason is I have seen how certain companies have behaved during COVID and protests, etc. I now am pickier about who I will give my money to based on these observations. I don't want to buy from a company that raised prices 6 times in a year, with 5 during the pandemic and they were more concerned about their stores being looted than anything else. I don't buy from a company that is fake about donating masks/sanitizer while a couple months later selling $300-800 masks/shields. The list goes on, but these were the worst things I noticed.

@paula3boys, hope you and the 3 boys are doing well (I assumed you have 3 kids, my apologies if I'm wrong).
I already lost track of the companies that keep raising prices. I also get my groceries delivered and I noticed several price increases during these last months. Since COVID started, I've been ordering a lot from Amazon, and prices on certain items are just crazy.

In contrast, stores like SAKS and NM have been having amazing sales and gift card events, which have been very problematic for me. Instead of saying goodbye to some of my bags and RTW, I ended up buying more.

The same thing happened to me. It has been maybe a year now since I stopped wearing my WOC/any purse. It started out as a fear of drawing too much attention to myself during the pandemic. I switched over to a Jansport backpack. And now that things are starting to look more normal and I feel less weary, tbh I have no interest lol. I prefer my Jansport backpack now or nothing at all. I do think in the future I want to get an Hermes card holder to carry similar to a wallet.

Which company lied about donating the masks and sanitiser? :wtf:
