lvlady and rogicoco, thanks so much. A genius, no, far from it, I'm afraid, but I'm glad that the brain can still entertain a creative idea once in a while.

Rogi, I flunked sewing in junior high home economics. You should see the mess I can make sewing on a mere a button. And, a hem - forget it! You can certainly do this. If worse comes to worse, just pin on the ribbon loops with safety pins. No one has to know, and I certainly won't tell.

Gorgeous! And what a pretty silk scarf you have!
(we need modeling shots).

Question: the collar alone uses velcro to fasten the ends? And with the scarf, you tie it? Or do you still use the velcro with the scarf hanging out.

OK, now I am off to attach something to the fur collar in my closet (pink fox!)

Well, Ranag, I owe it all to you, dear. If you hadn't shown the underside of your collar, I probably never would have figured it out.

I can't sew worth beans either, but I thought this would be so simple that even I could do it.

It's not as luxurious as yours, I'm afraid, but the current available H dollars are in very limited supply!

Thanks for the inspiration and enjoy wearing your beauty.

I think you improved upon the design! :smile1: You have a ribbon in the middle of the collar to hold in the scarf. The H collar does not have this (and the scarf tends to slip at that point). You have taken the design and made it even more user friendly!

I think you did an exceptional job with this! I wish I could sew even a little bit because this looks like a really fun project (I have permanent nerve damage on one side of my body which prevents me from doing a lot of projects like this).

DH was looking at your photos just now and he thinks it is fantastic

Enjoy!

Thanks, gelbergirl. I've always liked the scarf, Tout Cuir, but never had anything to wear it with before finishing my little project!

Yes, the collar came with Velcro tabs on both ends to fasten it together. The scarf actually runs almost under the collar, so I do fasten it with the Velcro, and then you can tie or knot the scarf most any way you want, or just let the "tails" fall freely - unknotted. To thread it through the loops, I simple folded it in half on the diagonal and just kind of gathered it together and slipped it through the loops, which I made large enough so the silk would slip easily through them.

If your collar doesn't have the Velcro tabs, I'm sure that you could make it work just as well by just tying the scarf, drawing the two ends of the fur together. Just be sure that the collar isn't too long. The one I used is 22", but I think Ranag's original is a bit shorter. Maybe she can measure it for us to compare.

And, I just discovered that it can also be used around the head with the scarf tie in the back at the nape of the neck. Ah, the magic of Velcro!

I'll get my sister to take photos when I see her in a few days and will post them when I get back at the end of January. (The cat has no photography skills, I'm afraid.)

Rana, I'm so flattered, but I couldn't possibly have outdone the design masters at Hermes!

Initially, I was only going to sew loops on both ends, but I thought that there could be a bit of a slip in the center, what with the slick silk and all, so I decided to add a third. I bet if you took your collar and some Hermes ribbon to your seamstress, she could easily attach a loop at the center point. Or, maybe you can get DH to sew it on for you - sure!

I'm sorry to hear about your nerve damage. I know that it can certainly inhibit doing projects like this. Just as long as it doesn't interfere with Hermes "hunt and gather" missions, though, right!

Thanks so much for your kind comments and, of course, the initial inspiration.

Merry Christmas to you and DH. Will there be more orange under your tree?
