Bienchen, I think you're definitely right, especially in the case of birkinmary, tillie and Diva. I think there's a private little club forming within the club!

You look lovely, but I'm sorry to hear that it's freezing in the UK. It's nearly 80 here today - much too warm for even the tiniest bit of fur, I'm afraid.

Oh, furbies, I just read the very sad news that Jean-Louis Dumas passed away yesterday after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.

In my mind, he was class personified and guided Hermes to unparalled heights. He was a consumate marketer and businessman and always a gentleman.

Let's pause for a moment to honor the man and his vast achievements and wish his family strength and peace.

In remembrance, I'm attaching a photo of him with his beloved wife, Reya, taken during happier times and a very special letter I received from him back in 2002. I've always treasured it and will continue to do so.

You deserve your rest, Mr. Dumas, and may your heaven be painted in H. orange.

Once again, I'm stunned about your wonderful ways of expression!

Not surprised at all to see, what Mr. Dumas wrote to you. Of course it expresses very well what a noble man he was, but even more it also shows your wonderful character, as I'm sure this kind of honour is not handed out on a "daily basis". :flowers:

I'm sure Mr. Dumas is now up there in a bright orange heaven with no more pain and suffering, smiling every time a happy h-client opens up one of those wonderful orange boxes.

Thank you, hair-mess. I'm blushing, of course!

Before my mother passed away in 1999, she told both my sister and me to take a part of our inheritance and buy something very special to remember her by. I thought that an Hermes Kelly was a befitting remembrance.

So, in 2002, I finally bought one and for many days just stared at it and held it and looked at it, stitch by stitch; inch by inch. It was so perfect in every way - I couldn't even bear to carry it, and I just had to thank Mr. Dumas for providing such a wonderful inheritance.

I wrote the letter in October and sent it off to Paris. Several months passed, and I just kind of forgot about it. Then one day just a couple of weeks before Christmas, I came home to find the letter (with a hand-addressed envelope), and I was so thrilled - thrilled with the letter and thrilled all over again with the Kelly and with Hermes.

And, eight years later, I'm still thrilled with Hermes and the fact that there is a company that still exists making goods of unsurpassed quality. Luxury goods, yes, but legacy goods, as well.

Oh Lily, I was very moved with the story of your Kelly, it really has a deep meaning for you and now for us, I can imagine the unforgettable letter you wrote to Monsieur Dumas, no wonder he replied you in such a kind way.
I'm very sorry for his passing away, rest in peace and thank you for giving us so many invaluable moments of orange happiness!!

I really had to get up my courage to write that letter, birkinmary, but I'm so glad that I did, as his response was so genuine! Of course, I guess that I shouldn't have expected anything less from him.

I do, birkinmary, you are very perceptive. I've re-read his letter several times and I can't help but feel that a great page in Hermes history has been turned.

But, I think he taught his son and niece well, and I'm sure that they'll carry on his legacy. That is the best gift a parent can hope for.
