Ladies,
I am just starting to become familiar with the gorgeous scarves. I am about to buy my first one. Any suggestions where to start? If you were to choose one favorite, which would it be? How about a scarf ring, which would you choose. I would also like opinions on the shawls. Who has them and which is your favorite. THanks for your help

I have bought (my first 90*90 scarf) Chasse En Inde (colorway 24) and I am waiting for a horn scarf ring. I love it but I am not used to this size and it feels slightly too big:sad:, but hopefully it will be better with the scarf ring.

Firstly, you need to think about your locality. If you live somewhere that is warm, you would probably be better off with cotton or mousseline as the silk twill can be rather warm. The other thing to take into consideration is your body size. If you are on the smaller size you may find the 90 cm carres too big in which case the vintage size would be better. Personally, being on the robust size, I like the 90 cm carres, plus I prefer the more modern designs of the 90 cms.

Then, just go into the store and speak to one of the SAs and ask them to show you what they have - this is the fun bit. Don't forget to ask about plisses too and twillies - they are very good for adding just a pop of colour if you need to be fairly understated. Don't worry about making the SA get a whole load of scarves out - you will know when you find one you like, it will just feel right. Your SA can also show you a few simple ways of tying them and make sure you get a scarf booklet and some knotting cards too if they have them in stock.

As for scarf rings, if you see one you like, you should get it there and then as they tend to go quite quickly and you may not find it again. The same goes with the scarves too.

Good luck and the main thing is to enjoy it - this is how your scarf should make you feel :yahoo:

My advice is to read the sticky "what scarf/etc. are you wearing today?" thread just to familiarize yourself. Then go to an H boutique on a weekday during a slow time. The morning is best. You might want to even get an SA rec for one who knows his/her scarves. (They don't all know as much as we'd like.) Hopefully conditions (indulgent SA, slow store) will be right, and he/she will be happy to pull out as many scarves as you want to see. See them unfolded and laid out on the counter, back up and look at the design from a few feet away, see them folded and of course try them on.

I would personally restrict the first scarf expedition to one or two types -- if your SA pulls out twillys and pointus and 90s and pocket squares it can be rather confusing.

Think about your wardrobe, what colors you wear, the color of your bags, the color of your hair. Wouldn't hurt to take a few pics of your closet. Not necessarily for the SA to look at but just to keep yourself focused.

Then buy what sings to you. It's like buying art -- don't worry about who designed it or whether it's an "important" or rare find. You have to love it.

I was tremendously fortunate the first time I went into H. It was before the Madison Ave. store -- the shop was on 57th, near Chanel. I was there for close to two hours, and the SA pulled out scarf after scarf. She was delightful and patient. She recommended colors and designs. To this day it was my absolute favorite H experience. I actually don't love that scarf I bought that day, but I'll always treasure it.

Good luck and have fun! And report back!

I finally saw the A/W scarves in person yesterday and was quite surprised. I actually didn't like the scarves on my list (not a one of them), and I really loved a few that I wouldn't have considered. I was really taken with Beloved India. It is gorgeous! I'm shocked because every time I went back through this tread (which was a lot as I formulated my list), I passed right over Beloved India.

Question to those who've seen it or already own it: A few of the colorways look a tiny bit garish, almost cartoonish with their riot of colors. (Which I completely understand is part of its charm. I just don't think it's for me.) Has anyone seen the red colorway (05)? My concern is, is it a bit of a waste to get this scarf in a more subtle colorway when the design sort of screams out for more color?

I live in Columbus, Ohio. I'm 5'2". What would you recommend? Are there any must haves that I should know of?

Like I said before, and as Eliz recommends, just take into consideration local weather, your sizing, dress preferences etc and then get thee down to the H store. Scarf choice is a very individual thing really, something will just leap out at you and you will just HAVE to have it - well that's my experience anyway. It will depend alot upon what they have in stock at your H store too - although now is a good time to go as the new season stock is coming through. I would however recommend that you get a scarf ring too whilst there as they do add to the versatility of wearing your scarf. Good luck and don't forget to show us what you get.

Eliz, I went into my H store the day the new scarves came out on sale a few weeks back looking for a scarf with no gold, yellow, hot pink or orange ( I'd just done an audit of the scarves I already had) and came out with Beloved India with the hot pink background and the orange border - I just couldn't resist it! So, my advice is go with what you love. I admire many designs but the colours have just never done it for me ( Riviers de Babel for example - always a bit too washed out) and have seen some fabby colours but the design just doesn't convince me to hand over £200 for the pleasure of wearing it ( the new background colours of Les Clefs are gorgeous and I admire the classic design - but I don't love it!). Don't ever feel you have to buy a scarf that conforms to previously held ideas. Get the SAs to work pulling them out for you and go with your heart. I simply love the elephant in Beloved India and it does not bother me that some people would feel it looks like a child's painting.

That's exactly what I loved about it, that it looked like a child's painting. I think the hot pink/orange Beloved India is a *stunner* -- great choice! (I think every design has one knockout, must-have colorway.) But I just bought two hot pink scarves in the spring (Carre Kantha and Caparacons), and I bought Les Clefs and Brandenbourgs in purple from the A/W collection, so I feel pretty well set in the pink/purple dept. And after buying Caparacons, I never thought I'd need another elephant! But BI is just too adorable.

Hi all - I'm hoping to get into S.F. by the end of the month to see selections IRL but has anyone seen this colorway of Portes?:

I'm wondering how you'd describe the base color - Is it periwinkle? or more like a denim blue? - funny how your eyes can play tricks on you:smile1:

Looks like a nice strong periwinkle to me, but as you said, colors on computer monitors can be deceiving. Do you have an SA you work with at the SF boutique? I really like Soizic. I may try to slip in next week also, it has been awhile, but none of the ones I'm most excited about (Offrances, Moscou) have come in yet...sigh...

Yes, I've worked with Soizic in the past, but haven't called her yet to see what S.F. has for FW2008 as I've been too busy with other stuff - I won't be there until end of July, so let us know what you see!

Tod's first off, thank you for continuing this thread every season, it's really nice to get an inside peak at what's to come.

I just happened to walk in my store last week as they were unpacking this and it went very well with the Rouge G bag I was carrying and a future chocolate bag. Too bad it's one thousand degrees so this beauty will stay stored for a while yet.

*sigh*

I really want De Passage A Moscou

I e-mailed my SA and she said they ordered but haven't received it yet

Apart from the colours mentioned in this thread (thanks, tods123!) they will also be getting fuschia and orange

I found a picture of the orange one on the net so now it's between orange and gray for me
