i cannot believe that framed pages from an old phonebook were on an exhibition...modern art feels like the emperor with no clothes!


I had the same feeling when I saw the piece (phone book pages) at the museum. There were A LOT of them.

Then I read the description and it got meaning: it was from a south American artist whose country suffered a dictatorship regime. The pages displayed showed only a small part of the whole piece, which consisted in phone book pages filled both sides with the names of all the people who had dissappeared in the country during those years. The artist meant to materialize the whole dimension of the tragedy of ordinary people (like those real people that are in the real phone books) with names, that dissappeared, not just a number.

After reading that, I liked it.

I hope this helps to get rid of the "Emperor" feeling or at least ease it like happened to me.

Nice to see that the same seller took advantage of the 12 picture limit here, especially given the fact that some of their negs are due to damage and heavy use:
