French bags?

hello "ingenue"

If I may ask, where do you live in France ? I'm from Lyons.

I'm currently in Bretagne, near Rennes. It's a beautiful area!

I'm French too and I would say Le Tanneur! They have some very beautiful bags for a correct price (the famous Matilde bag is about 300 euros). I also like Lancel but it's a little bit more expensive. There is Longchamp as well but it's well-known everywhere...

I'm actually really liking Le Tanneur. It's hard to say...

I keep finding new things to love, but I only have so much money. : /

Most Celine bags are MADE in China......yup!

hmmm...so are the other bags suggested above all made in France? I think most brads are made abroad: MJ, Chloe, McQueen etc. all have the 'made in Italy' tag, but they are not Italian brands. My new Mulberry Bayswater has a 'made in England' tag inside, but other bayswaters are 'made in Turkey' and other countries. Does that make them less British? Is Celine any less French because it's made in China? And is the quality any less? I've never owned any Celine, so I wouldn't know.

Great comment......
Indeed, it does get "complicated" when one makes a general statement about purchasing a "French" bag......do you want something that is both designed and MADE in a specific country?

My post was just to clarify that though Celine is a French design company, it should not be assumed that they are made in France and I make no judgement about quality or being "less French", etc.

It's all a matter of preference and when I purchased my Bayswater in London last Fall - I wanted my bag to be made in England - AND I double checked to make sure knowing that there are Bays that are made in Turkey. Alas - my Purple one is UK made.

I have plenty of other bags that are designed in one country and manufactured in another.......every once in awhile, I just get specific.....

You know, I'd never really thought about where things are made before I read this thread. I mean, I know brands like Hermes are made in France by highly skilled craftsmen, but I just assumed that, if a brand like, say, Chloe designs a bag in France (or perhaps England in the Phoebe Philo era?) and produces it in Italy, it didn't really matter because the quality and style would be all the same. But pricing is different I guess. I read somewhere that many US brands have increased their prices because of the low dollar. I was a bit surprised by this, until I found out they actually import most leather from Italy. It's all sooooo confusing!

Personally, I would prefer a bag made and designed in France by an independant, but that's really hard to find. I'm willing to settle for something made elsewhere in Western Europe, but I have issues with things made in Taiwan, China, Turkey and other places that have under-payed employees and questionable environmental practices.

I've picked some tentative favourites, but I'll research further, too.

And indeed, I can totally "get" how you feel about finding an independent/local brand......:p
