JOKING!!!

Ok, now I personally agree with a lot that
@nicole0612 said.
My own guiding principles:
1. I need to live with something for a while before I really know whether it is something that will earn its spot in my closet. Sometimes I love something and I think it will stand
my test of time, but seeing as how I’ve gone through 3 or 4 different hair colors in the last 20 years, much less style evolutions, wardrobe changes, and oh yes, those typical Gemini taste swings (one year it was allllll WASP-y Ralph Lauren; another year it was super-plain and fitted Scanlan Theodore; this year it’s been a whole lot of super girly LoveShackFancy (what does my kid call it? Coquette?), although I’m MUCH more thoughtful and consistent with my accessories. TBH, knowing how I am with clothing forces me to choose pieces that will go with (or own enough of a variety that I have pieces that will work with) many different styles.
2. With that said, I am fairly good at distinguishing between an impulse and an opportunity. At this point I can discern fairly quickly what I love but would either not wear enough to make it worth owning, or would not love enough to keep even though I may not wear it very often. I have made as many mistakes
not purchasing something for the sake of safety as I have mistakenly purchased something I should not have.
3. Priorities for me are earrings and necklaces. I am a sucker for Earrings. I do not need so many watches or rings; right now I own two of each (RG ring and watch; WG ring and SS watch). My husband knows the watch I
really want, and when that (eventually - he regrets not getting it when we saw it available) happens I will not need the RG watch I have, so that will go. I keep the SS watch because it has a PMOP face and is pretty, and is one of those pieces I love enough to keep and not wear much. There is an additional watch I’d like to add, but it’s not a priority. For rings, I know exactly which three I want to add; there is no rush. I prefer 20 motifs over 10s. I usually wear them doubled. I really like the versatility of adding a coordinating bracelet to a 20, or 2 bracelets together for a necklace. Or 3 + 1 extender for multi-stone wrap bracelet.
4. I have focused mostly on rose gold pieces over the last few years because they are now more available and they suit me, but I have some yellow gold and even a few white gold pieces. I am very visual and keep charts/lists of what I’d like to add, with prices and photos, and digital boards of everything. I like being able to move my photos around, add and delete, and see what would go with what. I don’t mind a challenge if I fall in love with something that might not necessarily blend seamlessly into my list; most often it really is just a matter of my eye adjusting.
5. I agree that “sets” don’t have to be many pieces; two is enough. Especially with VCA stones, if the color of the gold matches other pieces I own with no colored stones (like my Cartier 2-piece Love bracelet, which is Rose and White Gold), then it’s harmonious and doesn’t need more to look coordinated.
6. I am really into pieces that are familiar but slightly unusual. For example, my Love bracelet. (I nearly flipped when I once ran into another woman with the same bracelet. She loved hers for the same reason. The style has unfortunately been discontinued.) My favorite VCA pieces are the unique ones, especially my SOs. I have one two-piece set (YG Magic Pave), and one three-piece set (Magic alternating earrings and bracelet, 20 motif not alternating), and there is something about the 20 motif SO, which looks like a non-SO piece but to me is slightly different and therefore more meaningful to me, like it’s my secret. I also have a few HTF pieces that I enjoy because they’re beautiful and slightly different.
7. As a visual person, I am very specific about shape. I love things that are genuinely pretty. Most of the time a lack of balance (I was going to say asymmetry but it’s balance), or something that looks disproportionate, will drive me crazy. There are some VCA lines I just can’t wear because of this. It’s also why my #1 non-VCA must have are Verdura Pinwheel Earclips. By the same token, I need to have aesthetically pleasing or exciting design elements, which is why I do not own studs and why I have worn my riviera necklace (a surprise anniversary gift almost 15 years ago)
maybe five times.
8. Lastly, I am not into dainty or small pieces. More is more.
I’m sure I’m going to edit or add to this. Let me dig up some pics…
