Building your bling fam around an anchor piece:

Reviving this thread as I share my appreciation for anchor pieces in building a seamless collection.

When I first began buying jewelry, I never considered the importance of an anchor piece. I just bought what I loved and thought would wear. Not much thought was given to building a cohesive collection (and I use the term ‘collection’ loosely here because I don’t believe in ‘collecting’ per say but more in creating a family of bling pieces that I can get maximum wear out of!). The end result? I sold off or gifted most of what I bought to my family members. Individually each piece looked great but my inability (or maybe lack of imagination) to combine them made me lose interest in them.

Years down the line, I am such a firm believer in the power of anchor pieces. I like to think of an anchor piece as the foundational or statement piece that reflects your style and around which you can build your entire collection or a piece that ties in everything you already have. The key thing is that this focal piece not only ties in past pieces but also influences the selection and addition of future pieces! The result is a cohesive set of pieces that can worn alone or together using a gazillion permutations and combinations.

I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on anchor pieces - do you believe in having one? If yes, which pieces in your collection do you identify as the anchor piece?
Or, is the concept of an anchor piece overrated?

Either way, would love to hear your perspectives. I am a life-long learner and I love to learn from like-minded people as much I love to learn from people with differing viewpoints♥️

You need to teach a master class on building out a cohesive collection. The way you anchor everything and it stills allows for versatility is pure perfection. The WG might be my favorite because those yummy emeralds are just amazing in color and give such a wow factor. Now I tend to build out stacks and fall into achoring pieces around my tennis bracelets and my perlees. I still find myself wanting to add another sweet perlee in wg as this seems to be my favorite size in Perlee. Also I tend to build out metal combinations in sets. I struggle with making decisions to add other pieces that I like but don’t think will necessarily get great cpw. Another struggle is that when I’m undecided like with the butterflies I stop and purchase nothing because I get overwhelmed and not sure what direction to take.

I don't think of any VCA stones as basic. I think you need to determine how a particular stone and metal combination works with your skin-tone and wardrobe as that’s truly the deciding factor.

However, I think of the 10 motif style itself as pretty basic* (whether basic or classic or conservative or foundational is a matter of personal taste and interpretation ).

When I was considering Alhambra, in the end, I preferred the six motif magic GMOP for everyday. I usually wear it for travel as it’s lightweight and easy to dress up or down.

Re the stone onyx, it’s a black charm necklace with the same motif all around. If this works best with your wardrobe then I think uou should go for it.

ETA: to be clear, I don’t think of basic as negative. IMO it could mean that it’s universally easy and a foundation to fit into my wardrobe

I thought about 6 motif as I have already one in Carnelian-Tiger Eye.
Alternatively I was considering Rose de Noel in Onyx as well.
I do absolute love Alhambra in Onyx but I have slowly a feeling that this exact motif is everywhere.

I am also contemplating another sweet perlee clover in white gold, I currently have it in yellow gold. I have the regular clover but the sweet is my favorite!

The sweet is so easy to wear. I rarely wear my regular clover because it feels metal heavy. I love the way the two sweet clovers look stacked with the D’or beads.

I love how people do this, building around an anchor piece. I kinda tried with my single row perlee bangle but I just don’t wear it enough. It’s the pieces that I wear the most that have become my anchor pieces, which are my sweet pave six motif, my clover ring and my low key pave earrings. I’m so boring. I wear them everyday and don’t stack usually.
