I heard someone say they don't like buying white gold because they look like silver anyway.

Is this a popular opinion?

Example:

Let's say you're in the market for the Tiffany hardwear medium bracelet - with its chunky utilitarian aesthetic, I can see how people will think the white gold is silver. If you're cool toned and suit white gold, given the price tag, will it make you buy the yellow gold version so it won't be mistaken for silver?

Maybe yes, it depends on the piece. If there are diamonds or other precious stones (emeralds, sapphires, etc.) then I will not hesitate to get white gold. If the style of the piece could potentially look like either costume jewelry or silver, then I will likely not want to spend the money on white gold when it will not be shown at its best.

Not at all! I don’t suit yellow gold for a start so all of my jewellery is silver, platinum or white gold. My engagement and wedding ring and platinum and it’s never occurred to me that someone might think that’s silver, I can’t imagine for a minute anyone’s ever looked at my jewellery and contemplated whether it’s silver or white gold. People know white gold exists but I just can’t imagine many people think about it when they look at what someone else is wearing.

I've heard one SA say this, but I honestly don't think it's a common perspective. And I personally don't care if someone thinks my white gold or platinum jewelry is silver. I think sterling silver has a beautiful tone anyway.

For Tiffany hardwear, I probably would just choose sterling silver over white gold because of the price, unless having diamonds was really important to me

I don't worry what other people think about my jewelry. My WG pieces have been mistaken for platinum and my silver pieces have been mistaken for WG. Most people can't tell the difference anyway.
