First H bag recommendations

If your budget allows for it, I’d say go for a Lindy. Otherwise, the Picotin is a great first H bag - very low key and understated.

I’m not sure the Evelyne would be a good choice for you as it has a big H on it - which basically “screams Hermès” in my opinion...

The large perforated H is supposed to be worn towards the body as it was designed as a bag to hold equestrian utensils, the heat from the body and the perforations were supposed to provide warmth and ventilation to the contents. Worn that way you would never know it was a Hermes bag as it’s quite discreet unless you knew the brand.

@zazaincalifornia I'm in a similar boat as you are - looking at a first H bag or two. I originally was going with the Lindy eitehr 26 or 30 because my best friend has a few and I adore them. I still would go Lindy except someone reminded me how much I love cross body bags! So I"m switching my search back to cross body bags... I plan on trying the Evelyn TPM. I too strongly do not prefer bags that are branded so my plan with an Evelyn would be to change the strap and wear the H close to my body. Also, from photos, it seems the darker colors for Evelyn make the perforation less obvious. Still not ideal for me, but worth considering. If you're open to a really tiny bag, I also love the Convoyeur Mini, but too small for me. I only regret not purchasing a vintage Kelly about 15 years ago from a teensy local boutique... ahhh if only I knew then what I know now!

My first was a Lindy, then it’s Evelyne and a Picotin. It’s a slippery slope once you discover the quality and workmanship of Hermès.

End of the day, it all depends on your needs, occasions and how often you want to carry them for.

I wouldn’t encourage to go for dupes cos for that money, you can add a twilly/SLG/scarf/charm/bag insert.

@zazaincalifornia Update: got my first H bag: Evelyne TPM noir clemence with GHW. I fell in love with it right away whereas I never quite fell in love with the Lindy in the same way. I'd still be very excited about a Lindy but the Evie was just love at first sight. It is really small though but I carry very little :) Long term I'd like a larger bag (maybe a Lindy, maybe a larger Evelyne, who knows) for the days when I do carry more. For now I'm very happy!

Fairly new to H. I asked my SA to add me on the K and C wishlist but I don't know how long it'll take. I also like the 2002 20 bag. Should I just get that or should I keep waiting for a K or C?

Hi everyone! I probably messed up with the preferences since I stopped receiving email about all your kind replies :(
I was debating about the style mainly for the Lindy but I finally had a chance to try on the Lindy 30 in Toronto. I was a bit disappointed, it did not suit my style as much as I thought. However I saw a red herbag zip 31 that is haunting me... yet the colour is not that suitable either with my wardrobe! I am looking currently at herbag PM since I like the idea of being able to change the canvas. Herbag or Kelly I would not mind from 3000-5000$ but I am still waiting for a listing that seems reasonable (especially for a lot of stained canvas bag). I am however reassured to hear that they are very sturdy.
A Evelyne was very tempting but I already had bags in the same colours than those available.

The quest for the perfect H is still on going...

Congrat :) it is a very smart choice indeed, it is sleek and classic. The TPM gives this casual bag a very delicate and polished look.

I recommend an Herbag. My first Hermes is a preloved Herbag. It's durable, great office bag. I got the PM size, that's quite similar to a K32 right?
I haven’t thought of this model until I saw one in store and was struck by its beauty! Unfortunately the colour was not my style but I am since searching for a nice preloved one.

Such a good point! I have refrained from dupe or fake because I don’t want to encourage them and finally had a chance to try on the models/size I was curious about in store. But the charm and insert argument really makes sense

I always like ‘recommending ‘ first bags to anyone kind enough to ask. Of course it’s very much lifestyle dependant and what I recommend may be of little use but still... my first hermes bag was a black herbag and love it. For relatively modest cost you can have the beauty of hermes leather and design. It was super robust - let me see if I can find a photo. I got it as a ‘starter’ Kelly and the rest is history.
I have to say that my search is proving you right I am on the hunt for a herbag of a colour of my liking. Since I do not live in a urban center however, I will need some patience before finding what I like

Always nice to hear an update!

Herbag is a great first bag choice! I remember reading somewhere in this forum that there is a waitlist for it in Toronto. I believe even as retail it is in your budget (3-5k). It's like 2600+ USD or a little bit more depending on the hardware model for PM. I think it's like 3000+ CAD. Occasionally they show up online in hermes.com US, but I'm not sure about Canada site - I think they may show up there too if even less frequently. If it is very hard to find the right one for you where you are, then second hand is definitely a possible option; I hope you find one!

Check out this thread dedicated to the herbag: https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/hermes-herbag-questions-please.388790 (it's very long, you can probably start at the end and flip backwards for most uptodate information).
