First Chanel, go crazy or go classic?

My first Chanel bag was CC Filigree Vanity Case/lunchbox. I don't regret my choice, and I'm actually looking to get the same style but different color and bigger. I still don't own a classic, and I don't want to.

If a classic is a must for you, and you'll kick yourself if you wait 2+ years and the price has gone up a lot, then I would get a classic. If it's in the back of your mind as a "want," but you aren't actually actively looking at it, then don't get it. If you end up getting every other Chanel bag, except classics, well it just shows the classic was never a true "want" for you.

Buy what you like and enjoy. Don't worry about people's thoughts on getting a classic. The most important thing is how you feel about the bag, not what other people say and think. Think about it this way, if there was only one classic and one of the bag you like left in the whole world, and I bought the black/burgundy bag, how would you feel?

Now if you regret your choice a day or years later, it's ok. We've all made bag choices we regret. Sometimes it takes a purchase to make us realize what we really want. Sometimes the bag doesn't work with our fashion. Sometimes it doesn't work with our needs and lifestyle.

I totally agree with this, especially the part about a classic being a must for you. Don't feel like you HAVE to get a classic because everyone says you have a get a classic! However, if you feel like having a classic is very important to you, then get it.

Hi there!

I had to make the very same decision a couple of months ago. I started a thread to ask the Purse forum members for their preferences and they were all super helpful!!!:flowers:

here is the thread:

by the way I love the look of this seasonal flap and you can‘t really beat the price point!
I ended up not buying a classic and I am about to purchase my second Chanel bag this month for my birthday and it won‘t be a classic either.
But I stick to somewhat classic colors and the burgundy/black seasonal flap is right up my alley... only thing its not caviar and at the moment I cannot deal with lamb :-s

good luck deciding! Let us know!

I love this topic. Get the bag you are excited about! Most likely this won't be your only Chanel bag so get the one you're lusting after ;)

But also know what you're getting yourself into (I agree with the person above who warned about lambkin). If you've never had a lambskin bag before and you really care about keeping your bag pristine, maybe do a little more research. I personally would only buy lambkin for special occasion bags that don't get a lot of use or wear.

For my first new from the boutique Chanel bag, I got the coco handle because I love top handle bags and wanted to stick to caviar.

I was checking out the bag you have your eye on recently. I don't tend to check bags these days as I am generally done. But I liked this one enough to look at the price and to see what sizes it comes in. I don't think this would be my first as I like many went classic first. Enjoy shopping X

Get a classic only if you find it at a good price! The retail price is too crazy right now to justify spending that much on a bag that everyone already has. My first was a lambskin blue medium classic flap, and I do sometimes consider selling her because I'm too scared to take lambskin outside in NYC (where it's easy to bump into people and scratch). I wear my coco handle in black caviar much more, because it's more hardy, but I can also walk into a chanel/saks/around soho without wearing the same bag as everyone else.

My first Chanel was the classic black flap, but I bought it because I actually like the style and color.

I’d suggest to get what you really like rather than what other people say you should get. The classic flap isn’t for everyone and that’s perfectly okay. Different reviews and even posts in various sections of this forum puts a lot of emphasis on what’s a “good investment” or whether a particular bag is “out-of-style” but honestly, let’s say you got the classic because it “makes sense” but you don’t love it or use it.... what’s the point. You buy a bag (and an extremely expensive one at that) to please yourself and not others.

I agree with what everyone above has said. Most of us have told you to go with what you love and other's have said some variation of getting a classic. I think here what you need to consider is your style and personality, whether you are easily swayed with your fashion choices. I think you should take your time and consider your fashion journey, are you someone that loves trends or wears the same combination most of the time.

Let us know what you choose.

Definitely go for the one you love. These bags are so costly and if you don't use them, it's a complete waste of money. My first Chanel was a black boy in calf. I do like the bag, but I'm not someone who wears black bags often, so I kinda feel like it was a waste.

What are your thoughts on the shiny crumpled calfskin in so black for the classic flap vs the lamb skin version? So torn! my first chanel and maybe my only.
