Just to clarify, when someone says "evenings" I assume that doesn't just mean it's dark out, it means at least semi-formal. For instance, it's evening here and I am walking to the bistro down the block to have a (veggie) burger, wearing a t-shirt, jeans and boots - and in THAT definition of evening I could easily carry a Birkin, certainly 30 or smaller - it's just easier to take smaller bags out to dinner.
Yes yes correct! You totally get what I was trying to say, thinking if a B25 would be good size for such semi-formal setting.. and of course I know it is a tote bag, which is not suitable for formal occasions typically.

I personally don't think a B25 is suitable for semi-formal as defined by semi-formal dressing. I think it is suitable for a nice dinner out, definitely. Basically if wearing jeans would be a giant faux pas somewhere, I wouldn't bring a Birkin to that setting either. Hope that makes sense LOL.

I’d like to add that I feel the Birkin’s openness lends itself to more daytime use where there’s light out IMO. Especially as I view it as a leather basket bag essentially. Whenever I go anywhere at night I tend to prefer something that is usually “closed” for security/ease of mind
Agree entirely. in addition, if I’m going for a casual dinner, I’d usually rather take a small bag that can easily fit alongside me in my chair or that I can keep on. . . The restaurants dont always have a lot of room for bags, coats and stuff, and depth, even of a 25K or 25B can be an issue too.

For a first B I’d opt for the 30 over the 25 because it is such a classic (not quite the classic that is a 35 IMO but that’s for another thread :P). It will suit most casual purposes, and will function effectively for its intended purpose, toting things around. To me, the 25 is more of a style statement, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, but if for some reason this might be my only B ever I’d prefer a classic. The ‘next bag’ is another story. :flowers:

Also casting a vote for B30 here~ I think as bag size trends come and go the B30 will stand the test of time. The small handle on B25 is what deterred me from this size since I like the option of carrying the bag on the crook of my arm while I have a sweater or jacket on (I'm always cold 🥶 ). All that being said the B25 is pretty darn cute and still fits a lot of stuff. Good luck on your choice and hope you get your bag soon~

I think it's personal preference...I was also debating between b30 or b25 and ended up going for the b25. I'm 5'7 and the b25 can fit thru my wrist if I really wanted to but I'm a handle bag kinda person so I prefer holding the bag

My decision ended up being about what else was in my collection, I would say a lot of my bags fall under the big category and for once I wanted a smaller bag ... Mind you it can fit everything I normally carry and have space left

I also took the black b25 to a formal dinner party and I thought it was fine..

Are you planning on taking this bag to work? If it’s just for going out to eat or shop I say go for the b25. Hand carry or crook carry isn’t really all that different unless you plan on using this bag when you need your hands free in which case a crossbody would be a better choice anyways.

If you plan on going to work and need a hand free for your morning latte and the other to scroll your phone while walking then go with the b30. Otherwise I think the b25 is sufficient, assuming you don’t need to carry a lot of “just in case” stuff.

B25 is a great size if you only carry essentials and plan to use it occasionally. I have a sellier and it’s perfect for what I am looking for, which is to carry for dinner dates/ special occasions/ hangout with girlfriends etc. i also don’t like to carry bags on the crook of my arms so it works fine for me.
If you are looking to carry as a causal bag and want to use it for work and don’t care about the weight of the bag, go for B30 retourne style :)

I like B30 for winter and B25 in warmer weather. I think a B30 proportions go better with heavier winter clothing whereas a B25 in a fun pop or color is a great bag for spring/summer. If I had to choose though, I'd say a B30 has more versatility especially if used primarily as a casual every day bag.
I bought a b30 preloved as my first Hermes quota bag. It's a wonderful size, but really quite heavy for me to lug around as a casual every day bag. Maybe it's the 7rp insert.... that thing is thick! Is the weight ever an issue for you?

Hihi, I’m placing my wishlist for a gold on gold Birkin. However, I couldn’t decide on the size, very torn between 25 or 30. I’m 172cm (around 5 feet 6). I already have a K28, which I think it’s a nice size for me but a bit too big for evenings.

B25 or 30, sellier or retourne for gold on gold?

What do you recommend based on your experience? Thank you very much!
Hi ! For me the essential thing to take in consideration is the size of the handles !
On B25, the handles are so small so it can only be carried by hand (or wrist)
On B30, as the handles are in "normal size", it can be carried by hand or forearms.

Also keep in mind that Hermès bags looks really bigger in pictures than in real life. You absolutely have to try them both to make your decision.

But for the for timelessness and classicness, I will choose for sure a B30. (I have 2 Birkins, both in 30 ;) - I'm 1m57)
