First and probably only Kelly: Gold, or ...???

Gold would be a perfect choice if this is going to be your only Kelly for a while. I have gold Birkin and it goes with everything! If you want to dress it up more.. You can always choose colourful twilly's that will match whatever colour your clothing will be.. Also, mine is in Togo.. Which I find easier to use since it is scratch resistance... Although I would say gold hardware looks more elegant than silver hardware...

I have to say, I am leaning towards Gold .... at least, until I see the lovely pictures of etoupe, and then I'm all undecided again! Also, with stocks so low and the new system in boutiques of not having any kellys or birkins in stock, it will be hard not to take whatever comes in first.

Hi Ladies,

Any advice? I'd love to hear all your thoughts on gold in a Kelly, as well as any neutral alternatives you'd recommend.

Thanks so much!

i have a Gold kELLY WITH GHW and i love it! it's neutral but so chic - it goes with everything. And I'm a girl who very trendy, i don't shy away from bright colours etc.
That bag is one of my favourites, go for it. You wont be disappointed nor will you ever sell it because the colour 'annoys you'.

To me, the decision of sellier or retourne in a Kelly totally depends on the leather. I could never carry off a sellier in a stiffer leather - much to staid and formal for my lifestyle. On the other hand, I do NOT like floopy bags that cave in on themselves when put down.

I have ended up with a sellier in Chevre de Coromandel souple. It's a much softer leather, so it's not a stiff bag, nor is it horribly formal. I also have a retourne black box vintage Kelly. I love the stiffer leather in a softer style - just a perfect combination.

Think long and hard about the look you want and then look at the different leathers (doesn't matter which style bag - you'll quickly get the idea).

Thank you, India! I do know what you mean -- I couldn't carry off a stiff leather in a sellier style either. I've looked at virtually every Kelly picture here on TPF, and I'm very sure I want retourne. I am in jeans 90% of the time, and also want a soft feel as well. My SA advised me not to go with swift -- as much as I love the feel and sheen of that leather, she thought it would be too soft and unstructured in a Kelly retourne. I will probably end up with Togo, although I will confess, I still have trouble telling the difference between Togo and Clemence.:confused1:

I agree with your SA. Togo would be perfect. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference but, as a rule, Togo tends more towards larger grain & also veining. It is also a bit stiffer than Clemence & takes colour differently. Gold, for example, looks darker in Clemence than in Togo

Do you have cool or warm colouring? If you have warm colouring, the gold will suit you, if your colouring is more cool, then an etoupe may suit you better. Don't rule out etain either. It's like a slightly darker, less brown etoupe.

I have neutral colouring so can do either. I fancied an etoupe bag, but ended up with an etain Togo Kelly in 32 retourne with Phw. I couldn't be happier, and use this bag more than any others I have, including my 2 birkins!

Good luck with your decision. I am sure you will know the one for you when you see it :smile1:

Ohh, an etain Kelly -- would you be willing to post a photo, pretty please? I saw an etain Evelyn in the store, and liked the color immensely, but it's so hard to picture on such a different style bag ...

I am very pale with highlighted blonde hair. Some beiges wash me out. Gold would be better with my skin tone than etoupe, but since the bag wont be right next to my face, I think I can do either. (Although I'll be so excited about my first Kelly I may be tempted to carry it around next to my face, LOL!)

I have taken a quick picture of my etain kelly 32 in togo for you. I took it in the bathroom, as the lighting is the best, as its getting dark here. The colour is a bit lighter in the day light. You can hopefully see the tone of the colour. It is a true 'greige'. It looks grey or more beigey depending on what colours you are wearing.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for taking the picture -- it's beautiful! And very helpful as well -- I think I might like etain better than etoupe. Thanks again!
