I totally adore my gold Togo 32cm Kelly. It's also my only Kelly and I wear it all the time. I would choose this bag again and again! Etoupe would be just as fabulous and might be better with grays, but I do wear my Kelly with gray tones as it has palladium hw.
Etoupe might be a bit better to transition into evening with - say with a black dress. But if you already have the black Chanel for that, no worries (I also own that bag.)

Also, to me, it is younger cool whereas gold is more warm sophisticated. Interesting comment about etoupe being a "younger cool" ... I'll have to think about that one. Totally agree with you on gold being "warm sophisticated!" Thanks for your insights!

So glad you love your gold Togo Kelly -- it's exactly the spec I'm waiting for, right down to size and hardware! and I'm glad to hear you wear it all the time -- I want a bag I will wear a LOT -- for the price of H, I refuse to let it sit in a closet!

Thanks, Tamarind! I will look for that thread on gold vs. etoupe. Just curious, do you use your retourne more than your sellier because you prefer the look, or because it is easier to use? (or both?)

in the end, hopefully one color will sing to you - whether gold or etoupe, and both are great choices. my personal view is that etoupe is more versatile. good luck deciding!

Thanks, BHMommy! I held a 32 Kelly just once, in the store -- it was the one with the horse embroidered on the front, and while that particular Kelly wouldn't have been versatile enough, I just felt instinctively that that was the right size. I've seen a 28 (too small) and a 40 (way too big). I have to say that gold does sing to me, but I haven't seen an etoupe bag IRL, so I'm hoping to soon! Thanks for your comments!

Retourne is easier to use on a daily basis for me. I actually prefer the look of sellier, and in 32 I think sellier is perfectly proportioned. But I find the corners jab me and it's not as easy to put the bag next to me when I am on a train or sitting in a small chair in a restaurant. For this reason, I only have one sellier.

I may be in the minority but I found etoupe to be "bleh". I have a gold Togo birkin that is beautiful If I were you I would go with gold especially if it is going to be your only kelly

One more thing to consider, I have a gold Bolide and the handles get dirty looking pretty quickly. Even after sending the bag to the spa, the handles still have a dingy look. You would not have this problem with etoupe. If you do go with gold, you probably want to wrap the handle with a twilly to keep it looking fresh and clean.

Thanks for the info ... it confirms my decision to go with retourne -- I'd hate having to deal with sharp corners.

Wow, that is definitely something to consider! I'm surprised spa couldnt make your handles like new, especially since I dont think of gold as a really light color. Has anyone else had issues with their gold handles, or, or that matter, the handles on etoupe, etain or Gris T? Any color transfer issues? I live in blue jeans and would just die if the bag got color transfer.

I absolutely love H Gold!! It works perfectly with everything in my wardrobe. I was thinking about getting a bag in etoupe too, but after trying one on in the H boutique, I looked really bad with it, it made me look all washed out, so I guess etoupe just doesn't love me.

I love Gold too. I don't own a Kelly yet but my first Birkin was Gold w/PHW. As for the handles darkening with use, that hasn't happened to mine yet. I have had her a little over a year too. I think I read somewhere here that it has to do with the natural oils in your hands, applying lotions just before use, etc. My skin is not overly oily so I don't have to worry about it and if I do apply lotions, I try and wait a bit before handling my bags. Good luck with your decision!

So after talking with my SA today, I am on the waiting list for the following: a 32 Togo Kelly with PHW, in either Gold, or Etoupe, or Etain. They had a very large Evelyn in etain in the store, so I got a good look at that color and really liked it (although who knows -- I could see it in a Kelly and change my mind). So, I guess I'm leaving it up to the H gods and see which one comes in first! I can always pass if one comes in and I find the color doesn't work right. Thanks so much for all your comments, and please, keep them coming if you have any of these leathers!
