So even if a few designer brands sometimes have production in China, that does not mean that goods from unregulated illegal factories are now okay and ethical.

Please dont mistake what I meant. I am not saying that it IS okay or ethical. I just think that the idea that ONLY the knock off trade has abuses and unethical work environments is naive. I am not saying that ALL business that have dealings in china have bad environments. But that being said, it is the lack of minimum wages, government regulations, etc. that lead to them being a cheaper alternative. And I think it is foolish to believe that there are LEGITAMITE companys that dont take advantage of that. Not even saying most. But there are some major shoe brands out there (not going to name a name, but one of the largest ones out there) that i think is just as guilty in that department as the knock off trade. Gap and Banana Republic in the past also have been caught in some BAD situations in that regard. I just think its the wrong argument to use for topic since there are legitimate companies that have some of the same issues. This does not mean it think the trade of knockoffs is justified, or ok.

Trademark infringement is ILEGAL and in some places (france for one) you can be arrested for even carrying a knockoff. Just dont believe that buying real insures you are getting ethical treatment.

I wouldn't have a problem with it in theory if it were an "inspired by" piece. Kind of like when people print out a picture of an engagement ring at Tiffany and try to have their jeweler replicate it for less. I don't really like it, but I'm not perfect... I sometimes buy shoes from stores like Nine West and I'm sure they are "inspired" by someone else's design.

I consider CZs to not be "fake" jewelry, since CZs are just clear shiny rocks. No one holds the patent on them. The diamond industry cannot sue white topaz mines because white topaz looks similar to diamonds. I think people wear CZ because they like shiny things.

But if it has fake logos or pretends to be a branded piece, then that is not cool.

Also, when brands like Burberry or Michael Kors or Marc Jacobs have production in China, that is completely different from UNREGULATED and unaccounted underground sweatshops used to make counterfeit goods. I work for a luxury brand that has MOST of our production in the USA, but we have a few pieces that have to be made in China because no one here has the skill set to make the few extra pieces in our collection. There is NO sketchy mistreatment and there is no comparison! The work is very high quality (China believe it or not has a monopoly on cashmere production and it's still very expensive to produce).

I love this post!:smile1:

Anyway, I think you shouldn't mix your real Cartier with an "imitation". If you really like the clic clac I bet you can afford it and go and get it, but it sounds like you don't like it. $90 is a lot IMHO for a cheap imitation, I 'd rather spend that money on faux jewlery but not fake.

They have a Henri Bendel enamel bracelet that is real for around the same price as the fake Hermes clic one. What do all of you think about the Bendel hinge bracelet that also comes in different colors?

My SIL bought several of these bracelets, and they look great! Who cares whether or not they're Hermes!!!!!

NO WAY! You will be able to tell the difference because you will "wear" it differently. If you hadn't asked the question I would think that it wouldn't make a difference. But, since you had to ask, you will always think of it as the "fake" and thus you won't wear it the way you would if it were real. Sorry, that's my opinion.

No, I wouldn't. :nogood:
EDIT: And also, whenever I get around fake things (in mexco) and hold them (looking for fun but never, NEVER buy).. I get this wierd hot feeling like it's burning my hands or something. That's just me but I'd probably have a heartattack wearing it. :/ I would die.

...by the way, do what you want to do. Its nice to get opinions, but you wont get any other opinion on here then DONT DO IT...You'll support child labor, terrorism..blah blah blah....I say if you want it, buy it. If you wont wear it, don't buy it. No one on here is going to pay for another real one for you, so their opinions shouldn't matter! Enjoy wwhatever you choose:balloon:

Worms, worms, worms...

Just think about it. You are a member of a forum that is AGAINST knockoff bags, do you really think we want to purchase knockoff jewelry? Hmmmmm.....

We are also members of a forum that respects different opinions and points of view.

And the query posed for our opinions concerns mixing fine and fake jewelry, which if you read some of the other posts, has a well-established precedent, i.e., CZ's. It was not to encourage the purchase of fake jewelry, or to ask us if we want to do same.
