Ferragamo underrated?

I didn't know they were discontinuing the Sofia bag! :( Love that style, it's very classic & functional.
Back home in Asian countries, I find that Ferragamo is a lot more popular than here in the US. Especially in Japan! I find that the demand is quite different.

I honestly am not sure if they are completely discontinuing. I don’t see new color after they reworked the design (which I disagreed with their choice). I love the original Sofia with the wings. They reworked it to the one they are selling online with the rainbow pocket. I don’t see them making new color since they released the studio bag.

I discovered earlier this year that they have a very different offering in Asia! Omg, so much more fun pastel coloured options compared to their collection in the UK. The conclusion I drew was that they were a lot more popular in Asia! I believe they were one of the first brands of luxury goods broke out to the Chinese market. I really like their vara range, with just the right amount of heels. I own 4 pairs and plan to get more.

I find the bags a little boring. They look well made but the designs do nothing for me personally and they never seen to change it up much. I know if I browse Gucci I will see lots of weird and interesting things. Not that I buy Gucci but at least there's eye catching design. Shoe wise though the brand seems more popular. I have a pair that I bought last year (bought because of the hype around comfort) and I have worn them twice. Not that comfy to me. I have cheaper shoes that work better for my wide feet. So overall for me personally the brand offers very little.

Their shoes are specialised in narrow feet. So if you have wide feet, this brand is not a good match.

I am a huge fan of Ferragamo. In terms of personal taste I like things to be simple without too much stuff added. I dislike big logos. I mainly prefer neutral colours. I think these are the reasons why i am leaning towards Ferragamo instead of other brands.

I don't think the brand is necessarily old-lady/old-man brand. At least to me. I think you can always make things rock. At least i do with my Vara shoes

I agree that they are very well made bags, and their designs are classic. I like their Joanne shoulder bag in brown and have been thinking of visiting the store to look at it and some of their other bags as well.

Would love to hear reports of your impression and thoughts of the Joanne bag. I am also thinking of getting one later this summer. I haven't decided whether to get the bigger one or the smaller one.

I will definitely share my thoughts after I visit the mall. I wish they were closer but the shopping area where they are located is over an hour's drive for me and lately, my weekends have been so tied up, I have not been able to make it out there. Anyway, I hope to go soon.

The Joanne bag has a center divider and two compartments, so I am leaning towards the larger size - usually I find that when there is a center divider to the bag, it reduces the space available in each section, and so I end up needing a larger purse. I love the gorgeous smooth leather and brown color!

Why is it that Ferragamo seems off everyone's radar? I rarely see anyone with their bags or shoes when I'm frequently traveling, nor in my affluent area that has an individual store nearby. It's not a favorite of youtubers either, and perhaps that's contributing to the problem, Is it considered an "older" women's brand, or a more "reserved/staid" brand? I have quite a few Ferragamo shoes and bags and they're all excellent quality, some classic in styling and some more edgy, and all at prices that aren't outrageous (well, compared to Chanel anyway). Anyone have thoughts on this?

I am new to Ferragamo and have discovered their bags are so well made. While, I’m not a fan of the Vera bags with the bow (too old fashioned), the Sofia bag is beautiful. And now there are a lot of new bags that are classic yet modern like the gorgeous Gancini top handle and the Studio bag.

So I finally made it to the Ferragamo store today and checked out the Joanne bag! Actually the SA told me they just call it the Flap bag. I really liked the bag in both sizes. It looks chic and is functional.

The smaller size fits all these things very easily - my mid-size wallet, sunglasses, phone, keys and a lipstick and compact. While the purse is structured, the leather is not very stiff, so that is a good thing.

When the SA brought out the bigger flap bag my first thought was that it would be too big for my frame. But it looked fine when worn as a shoulder bag (I did not test it as a crossbody since I don't think I will wear it that way). This bag is much roomier and really fills my requirements for an everyday shoulder bag that fits my essentials, and has room for more if needed.

The smaller one comes in more colors than the bigger one. And the closure makes it very easy to get in and out of the bag. I have to think about it a bit but I might be okay with the smaller size too. One other thing to note is that the leather is smooth on some of the bags, so it may require a little more care than a pebbled version. It does not bother me as I am very careful with all my bags but I just wanted to mention it. They did not have the large size in the color I wanted so I decided to come home and think about it before I order anything.

Well, I don't know where you guys live, but I believe in Europe (esp. in Italy) Ferragamo is a quite well-known and appreciated brand :oh: ... and not for old people, lol  I don't see how colourful headbands with bows, candy-coloured bags and eg. SLGs with cute animals would be for older people - I sometimes find them even too 'young' and childish  Occasionally I feel that my pink bag with a bow looks like a toy (but I like it anyway):biggrin: But of course, just like with any other brand, you can find classic, mature pieces, too.

I think Italians of all ages are quite proud of it (I've seen Italian women (not old, hehe) excitedly exclaim 'Ferragamo!' in a foreign country when they saw Ferragamo items at some stores, lol, and then admiringly inspect the bags)... even a young Italian rapper Clementino mentions Ferragamo's luggage in his new song as a sign of luxury  (the song is called 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?'). Also, I found it funny when I was shopping in Milan at Dior last year and the SA showed me a pink Dior bag... and when I told her I just got a Ferragamo bag in the same colour recently, she nodded admiringly and I got a feeling she actually preferred Ferragamo to Dior which she was trying to sell

Anyway, I'm actually glad that Ferragamo pieces are not so wide-spread, as I prefer not to carry the same stuff as everybody else around me  More for me :giggle:
