Feelings about metallics this season?

View attachment 4468466 View attachment 4468467 I’ve been into handbags for approximately ten years and, in that time, my opinion of the fashion world’s opinion of what is “in” has precipitously declined. This season, Vogue tells me to buy micro-duffles and candy-colored croc prints. Um, no.

But I do value my fellow TPFers’ opinions. I’ve loved metallics for a long time, and have been hunting for the perfect gunmetal bag for daytime use for a long time. The attached pics show the latest contender, a Balmain Bbox that is on its way to me and that, I acknowledge, could be gaudy but, I think, could be fabulous. Major benefits are that it is large enough to hold enough for daytime use and the SA tells me that it is fairly light. I also like that the hardware is gunmetal and not a blingy, shiny silver.

Opinions on the particular bag are welcome, but I’m also interested in your general feelings about metallics, with the caveat that I know that they can look cheap—this is based on the hypothetical high-quality, well-done metallic bag.. Should I continue my search or move on and find another obsession?

I love metallics because of their versatility. They can add a nice subtle bling factor without being outrageous. I got a Valentino Rock Stud Spike in Lead last year summer and I have worn it a lot on holidays and "nicer" dinners out etc. For travel I love it because it goes with everything. So many of these bags look better in person than in the pics online, so that Balmain might be awesome!

This is an intense aluminum foil silver
It's a real eyecatcher

I adore metallic bags.. I’m not so much a primary color type of person, so they give me that something extra besides black and nudes.

Shown in the photo are:
-Bvlgari Serpenti Forever flap bag in silver brushed metallic
-Burberry Dk88 in patent silver
-Bottega Veneta knot clutch gilded oro
-Silver chainmail clutch (unknown vintage find)
How do you like your Bvlgari bag? I keep lusting over them but hardly find any info here on TPF.

I think the Bvlgari Serpenti is so underrated.. there really isn’t much information on here. It’s exquisite. I hope this will link will work- more photos/discussion on the bag and it’s details:

(scroll down to the bottom of the page to find my post.. and the next page I have a post on the micro evening bag version).

I definitely think this bag is a contender quality wise as well as in terms of design. Highly, highly recommend!

I just got my first metallic. It's an aimee kestenberg metallic bronze. I love it. It's a neutral I thought I'd never love as much as I do. And it's different from the browns and grays that are dominating peoples everyday carry (that I see around town)

Mine isnt luxury brand but for me I'm loving the bag. Its fits everything and pops with my winter jacket that's black and anything else I wear. The gunmetal hardware add to the contrasts of the bag

I think take the plunge and enjoy metallic leather bags if you find one you would enjoy and use.

My daily carry:

I adore my dark berry metallic bag with gunmetal hardware. Gunmetal and rose gold are my favorite metallics. I agree that an major advantage of gunmetal is that it isn't blingy/shiny like silver. I love the contrast/drama of silver against black, but other than that, give me gunmetal.
