so amazing bags! a few years ago I had the Double Sens in black/ ebene - wish now I had kept it...

I loved that double sens combo, and often search for it second hand. If you pull the trigger on the vintage, I’d love to see it!

I own a rainbow of brown bags. It is definitely my all time favorite bag colour.
This one I use a lot these days:

What a scrumptious bag, the leather is so smooshy!

A few more, going towards tan too

Hermes Bolide
Another 2 vintage exotics (number 3 at the back is a large 1970s alligator with buckle but I sold it, obviously number 4 is the Mappin Web posted before)
Vintage Gucci Boston
Gucci suede Soho Disco (more rust than the orange it looks in the photo ad bright sunshine)
Pickett of London Ostrich convertible clutch
Another vintage (1940s) croc
That bolide!!!

Hope all goes well, fingers crossed.

20, even 30 yo, most models were black and brown as standard, I think taupe has become the new brown. Now taupe is grey-brown/brown-grey, and strangely although I love brown or grey, taupe/Etoupe doesn't suit me at all.

My DH is a brown lover too. He has to normally wear black for work but he's more naturally attracted to brown. But then man bags still come in black and brown as standard so they have that choice.
When I first started buying designer bags, if I found one I loved, I would get it in black and brown since that would satisfy my needs for all time, a cool and warm choice for all outfits. It actually works, almost too well, since it’s hard to justify new bags if all your bases are covered. Somehow that hasn’t held me back too much:P
You are absolutely correct, when taupe took over chocolate, I was a bit at a loss since taupe looks generally bad on my coloring, and I prefer true greys and brown. I think I’ve collected more tan/luggage/fauve/sepia since the onset of taupe to fill the gap, I’m so happy to see a chocolate revival.

I have a few brown bags. These are all Coach. The first is from the 1960s, 2nd 1990, 3rd 2006, 4th 2008, 5th 2012.
GURL HOW DO YOU STORE YOUR COACH BAGS? They look brand new!
I have a Patricia and a Stewardess (black, purchased in 2013/14), and noticed they are getting a little "saggy" on the bottom. They're typically placed upright on a shelf, stuffed with the original Coach tissue. In their dust bags. I have pre-treated them with Collonil Leather Gel.

Everyone’s browns are lovely and so interesting. They’re inspiring me to use mine again ... and maybe pull the trigger on the BV classic hobo in ébano that I’ve been “dithering ... thanks for that!” on. Here are the 3 truest browns from my closet, and 3 from my Legacy box.

The one on the left here is a Coach from the 90’s that was made in Italy. It was my daily bag for years. Thanks :)

Thank you! If your Patricia and Stewardess were new in 2013/2014, the leather might be thinner than my vintage bags. I think my Ranch bag (the second picture) is more structured than either the Stewardess or Patricia. I store some of them upright on the shelf, some lying on their sides, and others hanging from their straps. It depends on how floppy the bags are.

Whateve, what is the name/model # of the first bag? I have not seen this one before. It looks like a great bag!
Thanks. I really love it. I have no idea what it was called. It was made very early in Coach's history and is really rare. I don't know if I've ever seen another. It has the metal Coach plate inside that they used before creeds. I believe it is a Bonnie Cashin design as she made a similar style for Meyers.

No one could possible disapprove of brown after seeing these absolute beauties

Thanks so much. I’m so glad you started this thread. I’d been having an approach/avoidance relationship with brown for quite some time...attracted yet never able to commit. I’ve been wanting a very dark brown bag that catches the light. When a color is in fashion-eclipse (navy was for a long time; now hunter/racing green holds that place) it seems to work with nothing until it starts coming back. I don’t consciously follow trends but they somehow get through the zeitgeist and into my closet. Wonderful to see this display of browns and the stories and opinions that go with them.

Loving everyone’s browns. I am bad at posting pics, but I though about this post yesterday when I took out this little Trio to start its Fall duties. The actual brown (and it is a true brown) is the back pouch (don’t know why this thing is not designed to be worn both ways...), but the front is quite more rusty than it looks in the pics.

But what really brought home that a change is in the air is the top. This is my mum’s Courreges from the 60s whcih I wore non stop in the 90s. It had not seen the light of sun for years!

What an insightful wise post. I have never stopped wearing brown, even chocolate brown, but it is true that unavoidably while a color is ostracized you wear it less, stuff can look ’wrong’, you are less likely to buy new because it is simply not available, and it becomes more difficult to combine.

It is one of those thing that makes me feel old when people say, such and such color (or style) is a classic, it will never go out of style. Ha! :noworry:

Those clutches!
Thank you!

I love your trio and top together. The new Courrege did a similar top in the collection, such a cool Emma Peele look. Time to wear it again!
