It is not a problem to find claws that look quite good when photographed from the side . If you look at it from above you can see the ugly spring mechanism from which the paint peels off very quickly .
No wonder these pictures are almost never found in the item description ...

Just an observation. I wear French barrettes (hair isn't even enough for claw clips). I used to buy them at department stores, walgreen's, etc. Can't anymore. Etsy is the only place where I can find good ones.

There's been a general deterioration in hair clips in all hair-clip categories. Remember Goodie clips? They're now Yuckie clips.

Same deal with hair bands. Just tossed out some terry ones I bought on Amazon. They were not made for a human-sized head.

All that said, I've purchased some beautiful adorned French clips from Etsy craftspeople. Though they never seem to make them/sell them for long.

I've purchased many French clips from Fenna&Fei on etsy (https://www.etsy.com/shop/FennaAndFei)
They also sell decorative claw clips and a variety of other hair clips. The business is based in Idaho, though the clips are made in China. I've been wearing their clips nearly every day for the past few years and they've held up well. They're lightweight, comfortable and don't snag my hair.

I love fancy whimsical claw clips and have quite a few of them but rarely wear them because my hair is down almost all the time.

I’m not really a girly girl, but I also love and wear a lot of bows, ribbons, and headbands. I am still young enough to get away with it, but I am not sure how long I will be able to.

I used to buy plastic, faux tortoise patterned ones from J Crew maybe ten years ago. They were made in France, and even then, quite expensive. I still use them occasionally

I wear Maximas clips from Ficcare. They are not cheap, but they will hold my hair in an updo all day.

They are a spring-opening beak clip, but the spring is on the side rather than the middle, so they look much nicer than a claw clip. Be aware that they come in three sizes and are meant for long, thick hair. I have hair a bit longer than shoulder length, and a small size clip works for most of my hairstyles, although I use a medium for a thick braided bun or similar styles.

There are cheap knockoffs everywhere, but nothing has ever held my hair up all day until I found those. You can find them in some department stores, but I ordered mine on ficcare.com. I can be tough on my hair clips, just throwing them in my purse sometimes, so I either get brushed metal or French acetate. The silkies and other coated/painted ones would likely chip unless they were stored with a bit more care.

I love these from Amazon because they have a double claw layer and have a strong hold. (and with my hair going past my boobs, I need all the strength I can get lol)
Unfortunately I see that they're out of stock.

Though I see another version they have is available. (I've never tried this version)

They are not the most "substantial" or weighty hair clips when you hold them, but every time I buy one that’s thicker or made of heavier acetate or metal, they end up falling out of my hair. I’ve had the single-color matte versions for 2 years now and they're great! My only issue is that I keep misplacing them and forgetting where I put them lol. If you ever need assistance with a similar product, you can check out https://www.pissedconsumer.com/company/oliveda/customer-service.html for reviews and customer service feedback.

I too loving using silk scrunchies, they put less stress/pressure on the hair and less likely to form a weird kink.
I am debating on getting a designer one. I know it's a bit silly for the price but gosh they're so darn cute!
I totally agree! It’s all about finding something strong and durable, not necessarily cheap or expensive. The Primark ones sound great, and the M&S one with the bow is a nice touch for a fancier look. Durability really comes down to the spring mechanism and how the teeth are cast, so it's great you’ve found ones that work for you!

I found this small business recently that makes interesting hair accessories. I got the plain everyday goddess crown and I'm wearing it with my claw clips. It's very nice and comfortable. What's your favorite hair accessory?

I've been learning to use hair sticks and they're surprisingly comfortable when I get it right. Sometimes I use it with the everyday goddess crown.

Lieve, thank you for posting this. I looked them up and I think it will be perfect for what I’m needing. I’m ordering the medium matt silver. I’m not sure this is the correct size for me. I might need a small.
I have shoulder length hair and while the individual hair shafts are thin, I have a whole lot so it ends up that my hair is somewhat thick. Now that I think of it, I think I’m going to try the small first because I don’t like to have a big thing in my hair. I heard they’re pretty decent about returns. Also, they’re on Amazon from their ficcare store.

Do you mean like a single twist?
What I do is tie my hair in a ponytail, twist the hair up (vertically) and clip that twist so that the rest hangs out from the top.

These claws are definitely too narrow to hold a rounded up bun.

Hmm, I don't have like thick individual strands of hair and I also don't think I have many individual strands of hair, if that make sense.
I think I'm more along the lines of average in terms of thickness and number of hair strands.

I would like to recommend ETRO hair clips (I have several and like them, they look very pretty on, some are made of silk).
Alexandre de Paris also makes great hair clips that hold the hair very well.
There are also lots of unique hair accessories that one can find at vintage shops, they have a unique charm to them.

Wherever I am, I look for Claws
Finding the right size, color and pattern is a real challenge , so I changed a few things in some of them because I like to tinker

I especially love the fluffy furry ones for winter
