Ick! Hate fake bags :nono:

Someone once gave me a fake Louis Vuitton purse and (privately obviously) I was like - what am I supposed to do with this?! Couldn't carry it. So I've just had to store in a drawer in case they ever ask where it is!

I feel like this is a personal thing rather than anything else. Some people like the style/status rather than the quality and they'll get fakes. We all love the quality and the experience of the bag and buying, etc. and so we have a different view and may be content with less number of bags.
there definitely are ethical issues but its less of what most focus on when thinking of this. Though it is a huge problem.

Here's a question: I posted a bag in the authenticate forum and the lovely and helpful experts there said it was a fake. No harm, no foul, I emailed the seller and declined the bag and said why. She was quite sweet and seemed truly shocked, and offered to go through My Poupette (at her expense) or authenticate in store, as she truly believes it's an authentic bag. If this was you, would you go a step further and take her up on her offer? Or trust the very knowledgeable experts here?

I have a lot of faith in the very kind people who share their knowledge so generously with no benefit to themselves, but it did take me back that she wanted to pursue other ways to authenticate.

No, I would not trust. People make up stories. A friend of mine saw a GST on ebay. She asked me about it as I have several GSTs, and I looked at it and saw it was clearly fake. Even a newbie could see it was fake. I told her to poke at the seller and ask where she got it. The seller said she was shocked and that no way it was a fake. I'll give the benefit of the doubt to the seller, and maybe SHE got scammed. But they know. They are resellers. And if they end up buying fakes they are not aware of... it serves them right they got scammed. Isn't reselling all about scamming the buyer anyway? Hoarding bags and then reselling at a higher price because they hoarded the bag?

But.. sad to say, it was truly a fake and so obvious. The bag was a GST, the regular size, but it had feet, and any person knows a regular size GST does not have feet. Also, the chain on the GST was all chain, no leather part at the top of the straps, and everyone knows the GST has a leather piece at the top of the strap.

Yet this seller said it was genuine. I would not trust at all. Fake sellers buy into your emotions... they are sweet and want to sell you anything. There are too many other used bags that you can buy. Or... take the plunge and get a brand new bag, with receipts and knowing that it is 100% authentic and that you bought it brand new.

For me, I'd rather have one brand new Chanel than a bunch of used. But that's just me.

Good luck!

First, the seller won't be able to have the bag authenticated at the store because it's against Chanel's policy. Point number two, if it were me, I'd agree to the seller having the bag authenticated by a professional, but I'd stipulate that it would have to be through Etinceler rather than My Poupette.

Very true because I don't have a lipstick compartment :( and My Chanel was bought from the store. I wish I had one though! It would be very convenient for me

I do think she meant the classic flap (I believe you have the Perfect Edge). But even then, not all classic flaps have the lipstick compartment...just wanted to clarify in case there are owners of the old jumbo/maxi reading this :)

I think what is crazy is yeah that on ebay people are bidding high prices for these fake bags, I saw so many bids and knew they were obviously fake and maybe I know because I am a Chanel lover but I would think it was clear by the way it looks but the bids go as high as $3500 and there is no way to tell them hey it's fake. There are real bags on ebay that often times are not bidded on as high as the fakes.
