I do that often, three for one I did.

One example out of many: Francesco Biasia 2 bags and one Hayden Harnett I sold and got my YSL Rive Gauche. I liked those three but it was always something about them that I chose not to wear them even though they would match outfit perfectly. And they sat there and sat there...the notes from buyers how they loved them made me happy, and now I have mt Rive Gauche happy and it is such a perfect bag that I carry it even with non matching outfits...works great for me

You? Fickle? You bet!

Somebody has to be straight with you. Plus, it's fun to tease you! :D

I'm glad that the Black Crash LM Midi escaped unharmed from this vicious downsizing. :sweatdrop:

You already sold the BH MAC! :wtf: I love that bag! I thought for sure that this bag would survive. I have a feeling that knas will be back on this thread and will see what you did.

I'll think of you when I use my smaller version of the purple bag. :hugs:

:lawl:

You kill me!!! And please do think of me when you use the Purple Love Me Midi. I can assure you that if mine were a Midi too, it would not be leaving my slimy little paws anytime soon. No way!!!!

I may just get up the courage to custom order a glossy purple LM midi one of these days...but the new payment system frankly terrifies me. :wtf:

On a lighter note...Happy Holidays!!!

Thanks for your comments, vesna! You know, seeing that thread that you just posted in the last day or two in the YSL subforum about why you love YSL so much really made an impression on me...I am looking for bags just like the ones you describe (and just like the ones I SEE in the YSL sub-forum). I'm amazed that I haven't ventured in there earlier...I think it was the price point that scared me off, and the fact that I was used to having a different kind of collection (meaning one made up of various mid-level designers, and several different colors -- and of course there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but I am not certain that's where my mindset is at the moment). :smile1:

I've done some purging in the past. Not so much as sell them all as some were given away to family members. I don't think I purged specifically to fund the purchase of new bag but more to get dh on board. He thinks 2 bags is TOO many.

So far I have no regrets except for maybe an LV I sold to a friend recently. I wanted a bigger size and didn't see the need to have two of the exact same bags.

If you don't like/love your bags anymore then sell them. No point in letting them collect dust.

:pWell said. I too have done some purging. Alot of my bags just sat on the shelf, being admired, not used. So a few to my sister(the nicer ones)and some to consignment. I have no regrets.

I think I understand where you're coming from, Lo, and I really love the idea! I have a love/hate relationship with bags. I love so many styles but get easily overwhelmed if I have more than a handful. I think you should consider one midrange colorful bag for fun and to mix things up (treesje, etc) that adds to your basics. That might help satisfy those periods when your eyes start wandering.... It happens to most of us!

Good luck! Keep this thread alive; I'd love to follow you on this journey!

LOL, Mimster, your DH should hang out with my man!! :lawl:

He thinks that 1 black handbag should do me. Period. (Whatever...)

And I understand the teeny regrets once in a while, believe me I do. I still regret selling one rare Rebecca Minkoff bag that I sold in haste last spring. But I haven't dropped dead of regret yet so no it's all good!!

I couldnt agree more here^. My DH hqas no idea why I need more than 1. Especially 2 similar. I have never purged my whole or half my collection, but do buy and sell frequently. I change my mind and my tatse changes. I am now stuck on the high end designers too. The only mid level bag I have is a L.A.M.B. (I was just thinking of selling it before I read this post). Anyway, I regret a few, but not that many and I also have not dropeed dead of regret. Let us know what you decide.

Oh, you totally need to purge your collection if you found a bag that you want, especially if you're not using them. I'm totally guilty of this too.... I've been mulling over what bags to sell to fund a big purchase(a YSL too!). I could wait for the sale, but I don't think I can hold out that long!!

I'm going to try to sell some bags and then put them into a savings for the new bag... that way I won't spend any of it.

Good luck to you, and I hope it all works out!! You know you deserve it!

Excellent observations, everyone...I appreciate hearing about everyone else's experiences, I really do. :smile1:

(And I knew that you would get on me for selling my MAC, knas!!!) :lawl:

I will update this thread as I go along this process and let you all know how it's going. So far since I starting posting bags last week (though I started the heavy posting last night), I have sold 3 bags, 1 accessory, had an offer for another bag that I may just take, and put an item on hold for someone who will let me know later on tonight if she is purchasing. Not bad!

I also returned a handbag that I ordered and loved, but then questioned whether or not I would be wearing it a year from now...and finally, I also returned 2 lovely leather cosmetics cases that I think might be a bit too large for me to use on a regular basis.

This means that my "handbag classics" fund is growing nicely. I should be able to pay CASH for two lovely, long-term bags by the end of next month (my Bday...that's the goal). :yahoo:

I have also posted all of my bags up for sale except for one: one black crash Love Me Midi shoulder bag from Belen Echandia that I will likely keep because it's ideal for bad weather conditions, the size is perfect for me and the leather is fantastic. That and a large red Longchamp shopper tote (which isn't technically a handbag, IMO) are all I will have soon. The rest is going. Period.

I am a bit too excited about this for my own good, I think. :happydance:

 HAPPY HOLIDAYS, everyone!!!

thithi, which YSL are you looking at? :graucho: It's great to know that we are in this together!!!

Lo -

Great idea, especially if you are thinking of selling them to get the YSL Roady hobo in Red! That bag is freakin gorgeous! That one is on my list too but I need to see it in person. I also like the Muse II but I don't like the way it appears to tug in the modeling shots.

I've sold quite a few of my bags but I do still use my Koobas and my LV as my everyday bag. They are really practical. My so called high-end bags are used for my "socialite" moments! :roflmfao::roflmfao:

Thanks everyone for your encouragement and advice!! :hugs:

knas, your example has really helped to convince me :smile1:...I am going to sell just about everything (and I mean pretty much everything) and go for a collection that looks something like this:

1 Red bag
1 Black bag
1 Bad weather bag (maybe something in coated canvas)
1 Small convertible clutch/cross-body (I already have one of these so I will likely just keep it...I don't tend to use them as much, anyway, so would rather invest my $ in everyday pieces).

And since I currently own only one large wallet and one small wallet that I love, I will keep those unless I happen upon something that knocks me out.

How's that for a radical change?

I feel so great about this plan!!!! :yahoo:

I can tell from your excitement it's definitely the right thing for you to do. Sounds like your previous bags were just not right for you. I also like your plan: red bag, black bag, bad weather bag, etc. I remember those plans....I wanted a LV neverfull for a work bag, and then I'll be fine....I needed a Rive Gauche for weekends and I'll be done, and I forgot why I needed the next two Pradas, and I'm still on tpf trying to figure out what I need next.

But anyway, it's a good plan.

Do take us on your journey, it will be fun.

Hey there!! :hugs:

Another red lover...awesome!!! The funny thing is, the more I look at the YSLs, the more I love them...I always thought that they were out of my reach, but when I sat down and did some cool-headed calculations, they are not out of my league (and they will not hurt my budget at all, in fact) if purge my collection of mid-level bags and then I stick to 2 bags or so...

I have always loved the Downtown and the Muse, and now the Roady. But I agree that it would be best to see the Roady IRL before proceeding, or at least buy it from somewhere that has an excellent return policy.

if I only have 2-3 everyday bags total though, when will I get my "socialite" moments? :lawl:

Sigh.

Too funny!!! I have always loved the Neverfull myself...and your Rive Gauche? (I saw some pics) = :faint:  :faint:

I am afraid that I have caught the YSL bug, though I am loving some LV and Mulberry, too. I just wish that the YSL sub-forum were a bit more active, 'cause I have a lot of questions and people rarely answer the threads.

(I am spoiled by the very crowded RM sub-forum, me thinks). :p
