Ever purged your collection in pursuit of one bag? How did it go?

I think I will be doing a bit of purging in pursuit of a Birkin. I plan to sell my LV Suhali Lockit PM, Givenchy Antigona, another Givenchy bag and a Marc by Marc Jacobs Baby Groovee... save a little bit more and go for it!

I've also applied for a secondary bank account, which is purely to be used as a "Birkin account".

I'm feeling nervous about the whole process, but I am looking forward to decluttering.

I just hope that I don't regret selling off these bags, although I would rather have classics in my collection.

I just sold 8 Valentino bags in the last month, several accessories and some jewelry all to get one Dior, and two Chanel bags.
Is it crazy? Only because of the amount of effort I have to put into the whole thing. But in the end, I feel like at least I'm not "spending" money. I'm kind of just trading it in. Isn't that better than blowing thousands of dollars and keeping all of the other stuff I don't even use?

I "purged" recently.....sold about 4 beautiful bags, including a Saint Laurent that I loved, in order to get funds for my HG: My Petite Shopping Tote from Chanel in black caviar with gold hw. I've used it day and night since I got it. SO WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do not miss the other bags at ALL.

I would pause on the Lockit Sale. It's such a well balanced simple bag. Yes, it's hand carry only which is similar to the Birkin, but it has an ease about it the Birkin does not. And the lines on the Suhali after softer. It'd look much better with a dress too.

I owned a Birkin and realized it wasn't for me at all. The IDEA of one is grand, but, at least for me, the reality was not grand at all.

Thanks for your reply. May I ask which size and colour Birkin you purchased? :smile1:

I'm currently purging my contemporary designer bag collection to make room for luxe designer bag(s). But I have no specific bag in mind yet. Looking at Balenciaga Velo, Mulberry, YSL/Saint Laurent, MJ, BV, Givenchy, Chloe, Proenza Schouler, etc. Again, nothing definite yet.

I've accumulated quite a few high end designer bags in a short period of time and am seriously preparing for a major purge. Although at the time I felt like I was being thoughtful and smart about each purchase I can now see that I wasn't. I'm afraid of ending up with a closet full of dated bags that I won't want to carry, and honestly have to immediately stop the cycle of constantly buying new ones. Sentiment is getting in the way in terms of deciding to sell some of them, but I'm trying to get past it :smile1: After the purge, I may or may not get the one bag I truly want but never purchased. Hopefully this process will make me much more thoughtful and smart about any future bag acquisitions, but no matter what I vow to NEVER get into this situation again! Please wish me luck! :smile1:

I am thinking of doing. I just sold three and am thinking of selling one of my Chanel flaps, leaving me with two bags. I want the money to fund another purchase and at this point, I have decided sometime last year not go put any new money into bags. So if I want a new one I have to sell something. It's not that I can't just take the money from the bank, I just surpassed the amount that I feel comfortable having spent on bags. Anyway, back to the topic. I haven't yet purged all... I have done more than half before and I am really thinking of doing it know. I am having a hard time decided whether the large purge is worth it, I am leaning towards it will be. However, everything I own now can be forever bags, it's a matter of this other forever bag is worth it. Just need to convince myself a little more.
