My family and I were at the Gallery in Philly and we stopped at the food court to have lunch. I couldn't even think of putting my bag on the floor or on the back of my chair. So I decided to put it on my lap but then decided even THAT wasn't safe enough. So I took one of the plastic shopping bags we'd just gotten at a store and wrapped my purse in that, then placed the purse on my lap.

Well, I took a sip of my fast-food Diet Coke thru the straw, but there was a bit of soda on the actual lid of the cup. I didn't realize it was there till it spilled onto my lap and onto my purse, which thankfully, was wrapped in a plastic bag. For once, I was pleased with myself for being so anal!! It's better safe than sorry.

one time i got caught in hard-core snow with my legacy sig. black leather trim shoulder bag. it was awful. i wish i had had a plastic bag or something, but fortunately, it did not get ruined or anything.

So I was just about to post a thread asking what everyone carries in the rain. Then I did a search and found this thread and all the great info. But what kind of plastic bags do you all carry in your bags for protection and where do I get them? Other than the scrapbooking ones mentioned because I have no clue where I'd get some of those although they sound perfect!

Last Thursday there was an awful drenching rainstorm in the morning and being a Coach newbie, I didn't know what to do! I basically shoved my bag inside my jacket and hoped for the best. I was also under an umbrella so it was ok but it really got me thinking.

I got caught in the rain this week with my pond shoulder bag...it had some water spots on it at first, but they dried nicely and now you can't even tell I was out in the rain!

All my coach bags have done great in the rain with no damage. I do have one dooney where the trim got waterspotted in a downpour the spots started to blend as the leather darkened. If you are real nervous about it, you could keep a plastic grocery store bag in your bag for emergencies.

First time I carried my turquoise Soho to work, I was washing my hands in the bathroom with it on my wrist. I didn't remember the paper towels were way over there so I dripped on my bag on the jaunt.

I was horrified but it did no damage. I'm thinking it can stand up to certain things :) That's why I paid the money for it!

I got caught in a rain storm last night with my braided signature hobo, and I made sure that my umbrella covered more of my bag than my head! The bag holds up really well; it's a great all-around daily use bag.

It rained here yesterday and I was carrying my vintage leather Ergo tote. Despite being out in it several times, running in and out of work, lunch, and to a store, the bag is fine. No spots, no problems. It wasn't a downpour...just rain, but the bag is fine. :smile1:

I carry a kitchen garbage bag in my wristlet inside my bags. I don't think you're crazy at all. In fact, I have a velvet Gucci and when I went out to dinner, I covered it up with my jacket. I think the black signature stuff is especially good for rainy days... the signature fabric is water-resistant (you can see it beading up on the outside) and spots wouldn't show on the black.

i think i was caught in that same rainstorm, lol. i live in north texas. it was horrible - raining like crazy, and my boyfriend's garage door opener to his house broke and he had to jump the fence and go in through the back to open the door for me. My Legacy Sig Shoulder Zip got kinda wet on the pocket, bit it dried just fine.

I always make sure to bring an umbrella if it rains but if I forget I make sure I have a plastic bag. The day I forgot both, and I was worried about my bag, my hubby grabbed it from me and stuck it under his jacket and went to the car. That's when I knew why I loved him so much.
