Well you are luckier than usOh wow is that 35% just VAT or is 35% VAT together with customs? Crazy if it's just VATI believe all countries who are members of the EU have fees and added tax when purchasing outside of the EU. In e.g. Sweden (where I live) there's a standard 25% VAT cost on every item imported, but when an item is worth over ~170€ you also have to pay customs (which is generally about 10-12% on handbags) + a fixed administration fee which is around 15€. So a bag that costs 500€ would cost, in total after everything, around 690€ which is an increase of ~35% in the end.
Here it’s from 22€ (shipping cost included) then it’s actually 30% of customs fees of the the value of the item and shipping cost (it’s not vat) + a Belgian post fee from 20 to 30 something € depending on the category of the item
So it happened in the past that the fees were higher than the actual price of the item! I got this with a preloved red epi 4 key holder. The fees were higher than the actual price I paid for it!
The extra Belgian post fee is a total rip off !!!
I always ask shops if the the cost of shipping appear on the package or not
And also it happened in the past a few times (not enough though lol) that I .was lucky and didn’t pay anything.
It really depends on who checks your package, how busy they are etc but usually they don’t forget to charge you! And sometimes you find the best deal ever and it just ruins the excitement when you have to pay an extra hefty amount at the delivery even if total price is still under retail. If it was same percentage everywhere that’d be less “sour” you know but when I know that in Switzerland it’s “just” 20% why is it 30-35% in Belgium? same in UK it’s less.
