Hi, I have always been both an etoupe and a gold/barenia palladium hw person as my skin color and wardrobe are fine with both, very different and equally neutral colors. Did any diehard etoupe lover wake up one day and decide etoupe now tends more brown and branch out to sauge (I know it’s green but I think the undertones are cooler than the old parchemin) or etain or the lead gray maybe called pLomb? Sorry I cannot spell h colors. And, if you had more than one of these shades at a time, could I find out what you needed up reaching for and what, if any, languished in your closet. (I didn’t include Gris Tourtelle, but I’m also wondering if that’s as neutral as etoupe, just lighter. Mods, I think this is a new thread (the only other I found was btwn gold and etoupe), but if not, pls delete. Thanks so much!

880- I understand and after seeing these colors, I stuck with my first love Etoupe. I found it to be more versatile pairing with my wardrobe. I’m sorry I’m no help.:P

Thank you Rouge H and rockerchic! I have been an etoupe person myself! Just wondering if there was a new neutral out there that was a lighter ans possibly less brown taupe, possibly griolet though I’m not sure that’s an H color or some other brand. . .

I love gold and would like to add a gold with ghw or noisette box with ghw to my collection. The color works well for me. I love gray but was never an etoupe fan. I've tried the color but it seemed to not work well with my coloring and I definitely felt the brown undertone. In pictures I just love etain and plomb. Wish I could try them irl!

I have a Kelly in sauge in swift leather. It’s definitely green. It’s neutral enough to match with many colors, but I think etoupe would be more versatile. Like any Hermès bags, the color is a chameleon and it changes in different light. You can also check out YouTuber, Colourful noir. She used to have a sauge Lindy, and I remember one of her videos showing the bag. 9DAE0366-E0FF-4D3D-8863-CAF0017D05F4.jpeg6B77287C-E5A7-4A90-ABE6-367D7FD07F15.jpeg

Thank you Yumslan! Your bag is gorgeous! Love the color and love the way the light changes it! This is so helpful! I will check out the you tube you recommend!

Thank you so much! This makes me want something in sauge! Both you pics above and Colorful noirs actionpics are so elegant! i only caught a glimpse but it looked like she was wearing a Gris elephante CDC in the action pic.

I think what differentiates certain similar colors can be their undertone and how cool/warm they lean. I feel like even something like our skin (under)tone can play an effect in how much a color suits us, on top of our wardrobe and makeup of course.

I totally think that you can start loving a new color (we have a couple members, including me, who went through this with Etoupe when originally we thought it's too brown). I think it's rarer that you stop loving a color but it's not impossible; I have personally grew out of my love for pink.

However, with classic neutral colors, I feel like you shouldn't worry too much. There will be plenty who enjoy these colors so you can always re-home your purchase should you find yourself loving something else instead. Also, the fact that you in the future may change should not limit you from enjoying it now and up until that point. Even if one day your taste changes, the period before that, during which you enjoyed your bag, is still perfectly real! So - whichever color you love now - I say go for it and enjoy it!

P.S. a couple extra points specific to the colors you listed:
- I think out of recent colors, vert amande is often considered to be a grey green that can read less green and more grey (even close to etain) in certain lightings/situations.
- there can be color difference between batches (not to mention leather types). And the hardware color can bring out more / less warmth or coolness of the same color. sometimes you need to see the specific bag in person
- there are people who happily enjoy for example both Etoupe and Etain in their collection ;)

880, you already know etoupe works for you. I wish it worked for me! is there something more that is making you question it? Maybe you just need a new neutral in addition to your etoupe, not instead?

Yes. I went off my etoupe Bolide for a while but love it again now. I use it when I am wearing pink, orange or cream shades. I use my sauge birkin when wearing pale blue, grey, green or white. I prefer the lighter sauge with beige tone clothes rather than the slightly darker etoupe, even though the etoupe has a brown undertone. Both bags are clemence. Here is a photo of them both in daylight with last season’s Plumes en Fete so you can compare and correct for the colour ( as photos always look slightly different to real life).
Hope that helps.

hat Trick, your bags and scarves are so beautiful and the photo is perfect re the amount of ‘neutral tone’ info it conveys! also, I really appreciate your advice re what colors to wear with each. It’s invaluable! Thank you so much!
