WTH is "gald"! PROOF READ SWANKY! LOL!

haha - feel free to edit your post and my quoted version of it...

Perhaps you can shed some light Swanky - has the market affected the price of diamonds right now? The jeweller was telling me that 1.5 c, F, VS2, excellent/very good cut is around $15500 right now. My 1 c, F, VS2, excellent/very good was $5500 in 2003.

If the durable goods market affects diamond price, then wouldn't it make sense to wait to buy? I am one of those optimists who believe we will see a market rally soon...my 401K demands it, lol.

I'm optimistic too and I married a 'half empty' kinda guy
He's tiring of me saying "you don't jump off a roller coaster!!" LOL!

You should be able to get a stone for that price or even better. Do you NEED a VS2? Your eyes won't know the difference between a VS@ and an SI1.

Here's an IDEAL cut stone for under $15k and a few more at the bottom for an example.
LMK if this link works:

^ Thanks for the link - yes, that worked. That is a nice diamond. At the jeweller they showed me some S11 options from their online source - I had dismissed them without knowing there is such slight discernable difference for the naked eye.

I am going to surf that site you linked me to - thank you again! :flowers:

Do you ever visit pricescope.com?
It's a frill-free forum but there's SOO much good info there.

We recently upgraded a pretty sizable stone. I was totally looking for G-H color and SI1's so I could get size without visibly compromising anything else.
Cut is paramont.

^ I will go check out that site too - thanks for all the information - DH is here on the couch, he says "what are you looking at?" I show him the GOG site page - he says, "oh, whatever."

time to do more research - :smile1:

if you're not in a hurry, it can be fun. And the research can be VERY rewarding if you don't rush :D
You commented on marian's {risingsun} ring, she's very knowledgable, maybe she'll stop in{?}

^^Hmmm. Maybe her lack of performance is in direct relation to the lack of size? ;)

Good one!

Is it the same jeweler quoting the 15k price as the one who sold you the 1 carat stone in 2003? You should be able to get a 2 carat for that price.

Yes - the same jeweler. She showed me SI1's, F, 1.52 c, excellent, for $14000. I haven't seen a colorless, excellent 2 c for $15K....here they seem to price higher than that at that size with those qualities.

Loganz, FYI, there is a $1000 or $2000 in price different if you could find a that is 1.49 or 1.45 carat rather 1.5. The price jump that much. Are you looking a bigger size? If you could find a 1.45 or 1.49 carat that has a larger mm measurement than 1.5 carat measurement, that way the stone still be big and you still have money.

I absolutely agree the CUT is paramont. When I looked for my own engagement ring I decided CUT was the most important and clarity was lesser important so I got an Hearts and Arrow, AGS Triple Ideal with SI1 clarity. Which is completly eye-clean however I like the idea that with a mircroscope my diamond has inclusion which make it easy for me identify.

this is a bit OT but its funny how this whole 'upgrade' thing is so different from country to country ... i never actually even heard of it till i was on this forum. My boy proposed with a gorgeous 1.01 carat which is actually larger than any of my friends bar one and if i ever suggested an upgrade he would be most upset. Now, im all for my boy buying me a bigger diamond in the future but it will be another ring ... not my E-ring. So, bringing it back to the topic at hand, if he is cool with it thats fine, but maybe consider a bigger diamond for a RH ring?? :-)
