Eternity ring questions

I am still debating over what shape I like best. I will be wearing it as an engagement ring, either alone or with a simple band, so it will not have to "match" an e ring.

I posted about this on Pricescope as well. People there seem somewhat negative toward a prong set eternity ring. Is it really that impractical?

That they are hard to keep clean, uncomfortable, can't be resized, don't look like an e-ring, and are delicate. I honestly thought it was a pretty practical choice! I am a pastry chef so that's how the issue of keeping in clean came up. But I can't imagine a little flour or butter would be that much of an issue.

First of all, I think the asscher would be really pretty. Also, I love the look of a diamond band w/ a regular band as a wedding set or a band w/ a low set bezel ring. I think it is just really clean and pretty.

I personally find eternity bands uncomfortable though, unless they are channel set. I have a wide eternity band that is a kind of a floral design and the stones are prong set. It forces my fingers apart a bit (which does not feel nice) and feels scratchy. I have the same issue with a thin peridot eternity ring that is partially prong set.

If you bang your hands down, you can get damage as well. All in all, I prefer a band that is full front finger coverage and a regular metal back for comfort (and future sizing). I guess that would be considered half eternity, perhaps?

Whatever you decide to do, I think it will be pretty. What about ordering a CZ eternity band in the approx. carat weight that is set w/ prongs and see what you think about it before buying the real thing?

ETA: something like this maybe? Are the stone measurements similar? It is princess, but prong set.

One of the activities many of us remove our rings for is baking. That dough can really get into the setting and make quite a mess. I suggest you purchase an ultrasonic cleaner and use it frequently:D

My jeweler also told me the same problems with eternity bands and told me to think long and hard. I eventually brought one because I think they are gorgeous but to be honest they are somewhat uncomfortable. Just my two cents even though I still love it!

I went to a local store and tried some eternity bands on. I didn't find them uncomfortable at all-actually more comfy than a 3 stone ring I used to have.

I can't decide between the asscher and the rose cuts. I keep going back and forth, because I love them both!

Asscher stones, when wonderfully cut are stunning. Gives you the classic lines of an emerald cut without the glassy look and they are easier to match for a band ring. I have had both in an eternity band. I have also had rounds. Rounds will never give you that "flush" look, but they are classically beautiful none the less. Do not skimp on any of the four "c"'s you will notice the difference. Smaller and better quality will outshine larger and compromised quality any day. Anyone who tries to sell you differently is looking for a larger profit margin on cheaper stones. Shared prongs are perfectly safe. In platinum, the prongs will be softer and you should check them often. Done the right way, the stones will appear to float on your finger at any angle. Good Luck!!

(My present band is a Kwiat with asscher cuts. A "15th" anniversary present from DH, it's a little over the top as it is 15 stones for a size 6 finger, at almost 55 points each).

WOW! a 15 stone 55 point each diamond eternity band must be a STUNNER! I have also been thinking about getting an eternity band with diamonds that goes all the way around the band......am eyeing on the Harry Winston rock band with oval cut diamonds. Would you possibly post a picture of your lovely ring???? Thanks in advance!

I went to several local jewelry stores yesterday. We don't have a great selection locally-i was limited to round and princess cut eternity rings and only 1 over 2 carats.I was dissappointed because even in the 3+ carat ring it seemed like the ring was taller than it was wide. It may have been set badly (it seemed like much more metal than diamonds) but it is not what I was hoping for.I prefer a wider flatter look-i think that's why i've always liked older cuts of diamonds. So, what cuts and settings should I consider? I will definitely be buying online, given my local choices.

I would love to. Except that I don't know how. If someone can post instructions from a phone/photo, I will gladly do it. Thanks.
