What do you think of this description - 1.25, I/VS1, G/A - $7,995?
Is "I" the color and is that considered good color? How about the VS1? If you could change one characteristic of this ring, which would it be? Which do you think would make the most noticable difference? Thanks!

It sounds a little high. Do a search at bluenile.com - you can adjust your specs to see what they have available and at what cost. Their prices are pretty much the norm.

I think I color is fine, as long as the cut is ideal. The cut is the most important of all the specs, and I don't see it in your description. Unless the G/A is a cut? I dont know what that stands for.

That is not enough information to make any sort of judgement. The most important factor in how well a diamond will perform is the cut.

Generally speaking, AGS rates the strictest on cut, followed by GIA.

An uncertified diamond -- unless it is a family heirloom -- can be a very expensive gamble.

If you go to www.pricescope.com, the nice people on their forums will be glad to teach you everything you need to know to buy the right diamond

I would never by an I color with VS1 clarity. To me it's a waist of money since you can't see clarity difference to the eye between VS and SI stones but you pay extra for it.I would get the whitest color possible, say E or F in SI clarity. You do see the color difference to the eye especially when it's set in a white metal ( white gold or Platinum).

I agree that you should post on Pricescope and get some feedback. Be sure to have the following information: who graded the diamond; table%, depth%, crown angle, pavillion angle, lower girdle facet length, and any photos, Idealscope or other images. If you are not sure how to get these measurements, we will help you. Your grading report should have a number, which is also on the stone. It is relatively simple to look up the grading report and get the other measurements we will need to assess the diamond.

BTW: Be sure to post in Rocky Talky. That's the forum we use to discuss this type of topic:smile1:

I would have to agree. Such a high clarity raises the price with little difference when compared with slightly lesser clarity grades.

The difference that color makes, however, can be worth it to pay a little more. I would go for G-H at the lower end of the scale and look for an SI1 that is completely eye clean. You can get more bang for your buck.

I was reading off the paid receipt from 4 years ago. I will take the ring and receipt back to store after Jan.1 to get exact specifics. I want to give all the correct info so I can get your experienced opinions. I'm thinking of upgrading and wondering if I should trade in my diamond eternity band to put towards bigger stone. Am I correct that round gives a whiter appearance because of cut? If my ring is $8,000, what is the minimal monetary amount to make it worthwhile to upgrade? I'm not in love with my band, stones have fallen out a few times and been replaced. It is not that comfortable either. And depending on what I could get for it, maybe, I could get a bigger round stone for the e-ring.

Round only gives a whiter appearance if the cut is excellent.
If you don't love the band, and they're willing to take it and credit towards your upgrade I'd do that.
There's no rules for upgrade to be worthwhile.

Swanky - I just called the store and they said same as you - "no rules for upgrade"
I guess everyone is looking for business these days. It is not G/A on receipt but GIA which has to do with cert. Just curious since I've seen pics of your stunning e-ring, do you wear a diamond band on opposite hand or what kind of band do you wear?
