It looks like they might have added a lot of color to her face (slightly darker foundation, bronzer, etc.) to make the black look good (skin seems lighter right at the hairline). Normally, her skin seems a lot more ‘Pink and pale’. The high neck of the dress mostly covers the skin on her neck, so you don’t see the difference. Plus, it’s an “overall look”. Very theatrical. Probably wouldn’t look good in person in broad daylight.

Ah, the magic of makeup! That must be her secret because she really looks good in colors that aren’t easy to pull off.
