Ebay - managed payments

Just switched. So now we're paying the FVF on tax too? Before I was just paying PayPal fee on tax charged and FVF on item plus shipping. Seems lame to charge FVF fees on sales tax.

I don't believe sales tax is charged FVF.
Here are my 3 transactions since yesterday when I signed up:

Item + shipping $222.80
Total with tax. $242.18
Fee charged. $30.09

Item + shipping $310.20
Total with tax. $334.91
Fee charged. $41.66

Item + shipping $35
Total with tax. $38.48
Fee charged. $5.05

I thought fee was 12.35% plus $0.30. Maybe I read that part wrong. Is the fee flat or does it increase over a certain $ amount?

You are correct and I was wrong. I just went back to look at the policy and they do charge on the full amount. Here's the policy:

Final value fees
We charge one final value fee when your item sells, and you don't have to worry about third-party payment processing fees. This fee is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the sale, plus $0.30 per order.

The total amount of the sale includes the item price, any handling charges, the shipping service the buyer selects, sales tax, and any other applicable fees. If you offer 1-day or international shipping as well as a cheaper or free option (like domestic shipping), the total amount of the sale is calculated based on the cheapest domestic option you offer. If you only offer 1-day or international shipping but no cheaper option like domestic shipping, the total amount of the sale is calculated based on the service the buyer chooses.

ETA: With PP, you were paying a fee on the tax also.

I knew I was paying the paypal fee on tax, but that was 2.9%, now we're paying an additional 10% fee on tax. I'll have to track because I don't think 12.35% of total vs total 12.9% where only 2.9% is on tax is saving me any money. I think I'll be paying more now and have to wait for the money to clear vs. being in PayPal instantly.
Also I had to delete my app because I couldn't find where/how to get to managed payments in my account and going through .mobi just kept taking me back to app. Desktop version was only available after deleting app.
But good news is as soon as I opted in I sold 3 things lol

I did some calculations in this post and found the fees to be pretty close. (I did err in my ETA comment though.)

In the cases that I've calculated, the differences were very close. In some cases, I would saved a small amount on Paypal but for the most part, any differences offset each other.

No. More worried with Target having it.
I was concerned at first and I opened a separate bank account just for my Ebay funds. That said I haven't had any problems.

Thanks for your replies!!!
I knew someone who's identity was stolen and it seemed like a nightmare to sort out. I am still concerned in giving my social security number and birthdate especially since I was a fairly new seller to ebay.

This is what I have found as well.

Regarding Managed Payments:
I've had no problem with managed payments other than having to wait a little longer for the funds.
I manually filled out all the required info without having to log straight into my bank accounts.
I've sold about 10 items and received my funds within the stated time period.
