Thanks, that makes me feel better, as sometimes I feel like I am a prisoner of a 100 year old house:nuts: My grandparents built this in 1910 - not old by Euro standards, but practically ancient around here. 12 foot ceilings and canvas-covered plaster walls are a lot of fun to repair/restore...sort of like some of your fab trunks:D

Yes, a lot of hard work, I'm sure - but beautiful, though. :D

^ Oh, well, I think statutory rape is rape-rape, as underage children are not, in any way, capable of informed consent, as they are way too young to understand the full consequences and long-term affects of their actions.

The fact that she was already, supposedly, sexually experienced at the time, just makes it even worse, as she must have been abused when she was even younger, too.

I also think that, if he were virtually anyone else, no one would be objecting to him doing his time in jail, at all. :nogood:

I do not believe that the wealthy and/or famous deserve special treatment - I don't care that he's a famous film director, as it's just another job, at the end of the day.

There again, I'm not at all impressed by fame (never have been) and in fact, if everyone was like me (what a scary thought! :wtf: ), no one would be famous, anyway. :nogood:

This makes me crazy! I agree with your view completely.

Robert Blake, OJ trial 1, Phil Spector Trial 1, MJ...ect. It seams like they can afford lawyers that are masters of the art of smoke and mirrors.

Bothers me that even non-famous people become famous via media and get the same special treatment. IE: Casey Anthony (I know you are in the UK, but its a huge thing here). She is getting the same lawyers that Phil Spector got for his first trial (mistrial) and they are getting paid via media and book deals. It is so incredibly sad. I think it will be horrible if they acquit her!

Something about a 44 year old man and a 13 year old girl is so not right. I like Polanski's work, but I believe he was in the wrong. Maybe his sentence could be to do community service at Rape Crisis Center and/or donate a substantial amount to a charity benefiting child rape victims. I read today that he already paid the victim a $500,000 settlement, and of course she does not want to press charges. I mean no one wants to give that horrible guy in California who kidnapped the 11 year old girl and help her captive for 18 years any kind of a break. I wonder if that girl doesn't want to press charges against him?
It is complicated. I really wonder why the Polanski victim's mother dropped her off there alone? It is unforgivable and in my opinion INSANE that the mother did that.

I don't know that much about Casey Anthony, but it's just wrong, in general, isn't it?

Just because you can afford a top attorney and/or can pay off the victim/victim's family should not mean you can buy your way out of jail. :nogood:

Where's the justice in that? :shrugs:

Hey ladies. How goes it? Sorry to bust into the chitchat, but I've got a non-paying bidder on my hands, whom I suspect is not paying me b/c she found something similar to my item for less $$. Do any of you remember the website that lets you look up what buyers/bidders recently bought?! It's driving me nuts that I can't remember, and I can't figure out what key words to use to search for the thread that I know had the link. TIA!!!!

Oh, I know. :s

Someone (can't remember who?) was trying to say that, because her mother almost forced her onto him, as she was ambitious, that that, somehow, made it OK?

But, once again, that just makes it worse, as he was, basically, taking part in a child abuse ring, where her mother was the pimp!

I know it was a different time, but the crimes of child abuse and statutory rape did exist back then, too; even if they, generally, weren't so high profile.

Yes, I know, but TBH, it's really not down to her and nor should it be - many people (particularly rape victims) wouldn't press charges, if it was just down to them, as they (understandably) just want to move on with their lives and to try to forget it.

But justice is not just for the victim (or even primarily for the victim), it is to uphold the law and to discourage others from doing the same thing.

Otherwise, it would be total mayhem, as some victims of petty crimes would want the perpetrator hanged (or worse!), whilst some victims of really serious crimes would just want to forgive and forget! :sweatdrop:

Quite.

Well, as I say, from what I've heard, she was very ambitious and basically pimped her out... :s

Hey choo_girl! Goofbay, I think..??

I KNEW you girls would know. This has literally been making me nuts & I have been trying all sorts of random keyword forum searches with no luck. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! :hugs:

I'm off to goofbay to check up on my dead-beat buyer. Nice to see you all back in action in the chat thread. I'll have to pop back in when I don't have two kids and a dog all sitting in my office staring at me. Thanks again, ladies!!!

Hello!

Just diving in quickly before I head off for a class... I just received an item that's SNAD. I haven't time to search everything right now (and it's not worth a thread) .
Currently awaiting a reply from the seller, but I'll obviously have to return it - which will cost me an absolute fortune as it needs tracking.

Haven't filed yet - want to see what the seller says first.

- can I claim the postage back at all?
