Hey hon - im a fellow Aussie and i know what you mean ... i live in Sydney, in a great house and have a good job but on this forum you feel like you might be a pauper cause my 1 carat is teeny in comparison.

I love it though (and the reality is that everyone around me has smaller stones so its not true) ... its just that when you hear some of the convos on this forum talking about 3 carat stones thats not really part of life in Aust!

(and in no way do i mean this to make anyone feel bad ... i LOVE seeing the pics ;-))

Yep, I feel the same. huge diamonds arent the norm where i live either, in fact if I do spot the odd one, its usually on a... how shall I put this.... rather mature woman from the more affluent suburbs

i've traveled a little through asia and europe.. and always make a point to visit several different jewelry stores everywhere i go.. designer.. high end and even mom and pop jewelry stores. i've noticed that their prices always seem outrageous in comparison (almost 2 to 3 times more).. and it makes our prices here in the US almost seem like "wholesale" prices! if i'm not mistaken even tiffany & co.. is more expensive in europe and asia for the same exact items. although chanel is cheaper in europe *sigh*.. haha! just a thought :)

Lisachen08, Oh, you travel a lot and recognize the diamond situations in other countries. You are not mistaken. The prices of Tiffany, Cartier, HW, etc. in the US are 15~20% sometimes 30% less expensive than in Europe and Asia, of course for exact items. I KNOW that from the net research that the US diamond prices are something like wholesale prices! To my regret, I have bought my Tiffany's and Cartier watches in Europe and Asia because I have no chance to go to the US!!!!!

Was just in NYC at a function on Park AVenuethis past weekend. It was to raise money for a charity and many multimillionaires were there. I saw no diamond rings over 1 carat--and i was looking for them.

WE on this forum and forums like it love diamonds and love tolook at them and there's nothing wrong with that (quite the opposite) but they are not a priority for all and I have yet to be anywhere in real life where 2 or 3 carat rings are the norm. I have been some places where there are SOME of them, but never anywhere where they are what a majority of people own.
