ahh, thanks ladies! i think i'm set on either one of the cartier settings. i'm not really a creative/design-oriented person so i'm a little skeptic about getting a custom made ring. so, currently, the bf has been in touch with cartier today and they told him that currently the only thing they have in approximately 2 carats is a 1.7 carat for the 1895 setting and that it'll be approximately 65k. and that it'll take them 6 months to make one with the specs i'm looking for.

so given that case, should i just go for the ballerine? will i regret it? should i wait? also, what do you guys think of the price? i have done next to no research so i'm not quite sure what prices to expect...

it's worth the wait if it's the exact ring you want. trust me, you don't want to deal with regrets later with that kind of money.

I'm currently trying to decide on two rings as well. Have an appointment with Van Cleef this week. Any opinions on which one I should choose? Btw, I have gone to see the Cartier rings as well and i think both the 1895 looks nice. :p

I echo some of the other posters advice. Check out Pricescope. There's a lot of information. With that healthy budget you can get a spectacular ring made these vendors.

Mark Morell, Leon Mege, Brian Gavin Diamonds, Good Old Gold etc...

wow, I am not able to get past the crazy high markup on that, sorry. For $49k you could easily have over a 3 crt solitaire.

Totally agree . My ring was custom made - I love it . 3.0 ct stone G color, SI1 clarity for $30K, plus $5K for plain platinum 4 mm wide setting. Another $5K for platinum 2 ct.tw eternity band. So, all that said - $40K total. Jared did all of it. I can't tall you how many comliments I get on my ring. Will post picture later today.

Good luck !
