i'm considering the schlumberger. http://www.tiffany.com/Engagement/Item.aspx?GroupSKU=GRP10022#f+0/0/2003/0/0/2003

they have a 1.8 carat for $49k right now. what do you girls think? is 1.8 not big enough? i want something bigger but they don't have any available now and i honestly don't know how a bigger one will look with the setting. also, i've always wanted my engagement ring to be wearable with a wedding band but that's pretty much impossible with this setting.

and what would you guys prefer e ring from tiffany or have it be from cartier or harry winston?

If you really want my opinion on what I would prefer? none of the above. Id want a killer ring that is not outright branded.

Have you tried this on? This ring is definitely a love it or leave it design, but with a 1.8...that will be VERY wide on the finger.

When you say 1.8carat is it just the centre stone or the total carat weight of all the stones? Personally I find there's too much going in the design and it distracts from the centre stone. If I had to choose, I'd go for a non-designer but the biggest stone possible. But between the 3 I'd go for Cartier. Not so keen on the HW setting of Harry Winston.

1.8 is the center stone. the setting is 1.27 in total carat weight. i tried on a 1.2 carat and it was pretty but i felt like it was a little overshadowed by the pave.

would you ladies say that tiffany has the best e rings as far as diamonds or would it be harry winston or cartier? i heard that blue nile has quality diamonds but i don't know any jewelers in particular that could do a custom setting for me.

I would *never* consider any of those three 'the best' for engagement rings because you an get far more for your money that is at least equal, if not better, quality elsewhere. You're buying the name, not the implied quality.

ifhaving the name is the most important thing, prob cartier but if my dh had a choice of where to spend his 50k, I would go with goodoldgold.com and leon mege (artofplatinum.com) in a second.

i think the schlumberger ring is very ornate and when i tried it on, i thought it looked best as a right hand ring/cocktail ring.

between tiffany, cartier, and hw, i suggest you go with the SETTING that you like best. with a lot of research on your part, i'm sure you can find the best diamond for you at any of those three locations. gl.

I guess if I had to pick, I'd say HW...but if you are looking for a custom, truly unique ring, I would talk to Vinca in Kansas City. Simone is truly the best and I've never seen anything as amazing as his workmanship and quality.

Yeah, the total setting weight is not including the center. So the total carat weight is 3.07.

How can total weight be 1.27 if center is 1.8? Unless the total setting weight is not including the center.

Also, what settings would you ladies recommend from Cartier? I haven't really found one that I love but maybe I'm not looking in the right places?

I agree with those who've said this Tiffany ring doesn't look like an engagement ring - it's too busy.

It seems you're limiting yourself to off-the-shelf mass produced rings. Have you tried a few local jewelers to see what they have to offer? You may find something unique and more special that way.
