I agree with Swanky in that the Lucida seems to bit a bit too much metal-- and can almost distract the eye away from the stone. I wanted my band to be as thin as possible when my fiance and I designed mine. I also felt like you in the fact that I wanted my to have a ring that no one else had. So we custom designed my three stone ring. We also researched some online websites to find the best deals--but we ended up going with a respected jeweler here in Atlanta and we ended up getting a better deal than most of the online sites. I would take a day to go around town to private jewelers and see if the prices are comparable. :)

Have you looked at the Tiffany Novo. Its a classic with a thin sparkly band--my sorority sister just got one and its beautiful. Of course your diamond would be much larger than hers-- so it would be even more striking!

^ i understand your point. i am kinda odd in the sense that i dont really want the stone to be too noticeable that the first thing they look at is the ring. that's why i love the Lucida; it is surrounded by thicker band. IMO that protects the diamond better too LOL!

I bought a gorgeous diamond from Whiteflash. I can't speak to the settings, since I had my stone set in a HOF semimount by a local jeweler. If you want a radiant, Diamonds by Lauren specializes in this type of stone.

Yea they do, I NEVER remember to mention them. They have great colored diamonds as well, a lot of pinks and yellows if I remember correctly.

^ The pinks are very pretty too. I love yellows, but the different shades of pink they carry are so pretty and the settings really bring out the colors, IMO. I like that they have diamonds/rings for most budgets too.

Diamond shapes go in and out of style all the time, so I wouldn't worry so much about that, but more importantly what style/shape/design really speaks to you. I make engagment rings for couples and some know immediately, others take a long time to decide.
Speaking as a Jeweler, my advice would be:

1.) Make sure you are comfortable with how the diamond (in it's setting) feels on your finger. Do you feel it "gets in the way"? Is this something you could wear all the time?

2.) What is your dream ring? Picture it and than go from there.

There is so much to think about. I went back last night with my best friend and looked again. I do think the Lucida is too plain and too much metal. The diamond would be too hidden. There are so many good suggestions here on this thread. Thanks to everyone who took time to post.

I found another one that is similar with 2 little ideal cut stones in the band, bring it a bit more sparkle. The diamond is not as encased as with the Lucida. I do like sparkley.

Part of me is leaning toward the traditional 6 prong Tiffany and just a really sparkley band- and then a plain band I can wear for the ultra casual times.

I never thought this would be so hard.It was not this hard the first time I was engaged. Boyfriend wants to go back with me again this weekend.

Something that is funny, though. I think a 3 carat stone is too big! I always dreamed of a 3, but it just does not seem like I could wear it comfortably every day.Maybe in the Tiffany traditional setting a 3 would work for me . If BF wants to buy a 3 I won't argue.

I took pics on my cell phone, but they came out really bad...:crybaby:I wanted to post some. I will have to take the better camera this weekend.

If all dilemias could only be this sweet...

trust me, 3 will 'shrink' and not appear so big anymore! LOL! My 3.67 looks smaller today than it did when we bought it! :s

I bolded another section, we're doing this and I think it is a really fun option. Keeps us gals from growing bored :p

I have to agree with Swanky that they do shrink fast!

As for the Lucida, it's a heavier looking band with quite a bit of metal, and it gives it a bit of a more casual, sporty look. I can see where it would/could detract from the look of the diamond. I had an engagement ring with a thicker band like that so that it wouldn't be as likely to turn on my finger as a thinner band would. I got tired of it though and when I upgraded went with a thinner band with small diamonds on it. While the weight of the main diamond does make it turn on my finger, I'm hoping that in warmer weather it won't. If it does, I'm going to have those little 'buttons' put on the inside of the band to discourage the ring from turning.
