Good evening gals,

BF and I went e-ring shopping yesterday :tender: and I noticed that my tastes have changed a lot since I was younger.

I have always love ornate sparkley rings crammed with detail, but lately am drawn to the classic look- specifically the Tiffany Lucida. I know I want a squarish radiant and we will go 2-3 carat. BF is pretty adamant I have a NICE white diamond.

Any opinions for a first time -not-so-young-bride?

I am pretty classic in dress ( no crazy trends: my favorite outfit is a pair of dark jeans, a nice little sweater and my stillettos.) I love my LV bags and wear my hair long and dark. I am athletic and teach yoga , I need something durable ( although I don't imagine I will wear it to workout.) I also like to have something just a bit different than everyone else. I do not want the same ring as the 23 year old who works with me a just got engaged.

It is important for me to have a timeless ring that I will always want to wear, but also something brilliant and a little flashy. At my age and first marriage, I think I deserve it!

Pics are of a 2 carat princess Lucida, it will look slightly different with a radiant. What do you think? Does the diamond look too hidden?

Lastly, has anyone bought their E-ring online? I am very comfortable with that, seems like we could get a great deal, but BF is not so sure.

Thanks- Julie :smile1:

I think the Lucida is a great ring - and honestly it's whatever makes your eye happy!! Congrats and best of luck! I have no experience buying online but if you're talking Tiffany they are super on the phone!

i love the Lucida, is one of my favourite Tiffany designs. in fact, if i were getting engaged again, i'd get that one! I have seen it done with a round brilliant diamond and it looked great. congrats and have fun with the research. can't wait to see picks!

I like basic/non-fussy as well:yes:
Lots of people love the Lucida, it's not my favorite personally as it's almsot too much metal for me - does that makes sense{?} LOL!
It's more contemporary looking for *me* personally.
The phtos you showed are also likely smaller stones than you're looking for, you'rs will not appear 'hidden' at all IMO.
Have you tried one on @ Tiffany's? That makes a HUGE difference.
Also, a lot of vendors can't replicate the Lucida exactly, is that okay?

I'd definitely shop online, there's several trustworthy websites, here's a couple and these are VERY reputable:
www.goodolfgold.com
www.engagementringsdirect.com
www.whiteflash.com
www.jamesallen.com

You probably already know this but if you or SO want white, you can still go down to an F and get a very white stone, it doesn't have to be a D.
Unless you want D of course! ;)

Have fun and congrats!!!

i have a 2.47 Lucida and love it to death. I love the fact that it's so understated and isn't showy at all. also, it depends on whether the carat means a great deal to you b'c the same size of Lucida looks much smaller than a same size round brilliant or princess. i have personally compared them this past weekend but i am not sure about other shapes.

Congratulations on your upcoming engagement and happy hunting. I am sure you will find your dream ring soon!

I strongly recommend Goodoldgold.com. Great experiences with them and great stones. They have a stone called the Princess of Hearts (I think that's the name) that would be a great one to look into. Jonathan is the MAN for diamonds.

Also:
Swanky mentioned Whiteflash.com and I had a series of TERRIBLE experiences with them. Their diamonds were fine but their rings themselves were HORRIBLE. Custom especially. But the way they handled it (or should I say DIDN'T), made it 100x worse than the fact that something made of platinum, that should have lasted 50+ years, barely made it 50 minutes.

Great input and suggestions... I am wondering if the Lucida will have too much metal. I did try it on. Looked nice because I have long fingers, but might not have enough flash. I am not 100% on it. Suddenly, after looking around on the web, I am leaning toward a thinner band with a solitaire radiant- and a sparkly wedding band.

This is so fun and BF is getting a kick out of it all. I am a little stressed, though. I want it to be perfect. BF is a bit nervous, too because he knows how picky I am about purses and shoes...He does not want me to get sporadic and change my mind.

I am trying to be practical, but indulge at the same time.
Thanks for the site links.

^that's what I did/am doing.
I recently upgraded to a nice big stone - I wanted to put all the $ into the stone as opposed to the setting. Now DH will "collect" blingy eternity bands in different flavors for me over the years for fun, to change out, stack, etc. . . . I'd like a sapphire/diamond one, a pink sapphire one, all diamond one. . . .
I got my stone mounted on a plain 6 prong tiffany setting. We may chaneg the setting slightly as this one is sort of considered temporary, but it will remain very basic I'm sure.

Have you checked out pricescope.com? You can go through the e-ring eye candy folder and get lots of ideas...and lots of info on diamonds and shopping online. Be careful, it is addicting!

I bought a gorgeous diamond from Whiteflash. I can't speak to the settings, since I had my stone set in a HOF semimount by a local jeweler. If you want a radiant, Diamonds by Lauren specializes in this type of stone.

^ Yes to Diamonds by Lauren! They've got tons of really pretty things. I found them by searching yellow diamonds, just to look. The prices seem to be not all that bad either.

Best wishes on your engagement! I think the ring you're considering is beautiful.

As I am a conservative 52 year old, it seems a tad bit modern too me, but that's not a negative, just an observation. I like your second idea of getting a thinner band and a really special wedding ring. I have seen some gorgeous eternity-type bands that look stunning with a single solitaire diamond engagement ring.
