Dyeing an old Alma and bringing her back to life as a custom Macassar beauty!

If you don't find yourself using it much, I actually think you could make a LOT of money selling it because many women love the black over vachetta!!! You could probably sell it for much more than you paid, but just be honest in the description that you dyed it.

I had to share with yall. I bought an old Alma on eBay for $125 with badly stained vachetta. I ordered some black and deep brown Fiebings leather dye from amazon but got impatient waiting so I decided to try Kiwi leather dye. I grabbed a bottle of black and some daubers and q tips and went to work. A couple hours later I have a stunning new bag that goes with everything! My total cost, $132. :) I am doing an old Noé brown next and my first Speedy 25 black as well and will post pics when I'm done. With vachetta replacement being SO expensive I think this is a fabulous alternative! I've gotten so many compliments on her.

And when my VIC ambassador/our boutique manager took me to lunch the other day she fell in love with my newly beautified Alma and said that was a genius idea. She also told me if I ever needed any hardware replacement etc that she would still get it done for me (idk company policy but if you do this, make friends with an SA if you ever want work done ;) )

So here she is... my Macassar Alma. After dyeing I sealed with carnauba creme. If you use Kiwi you get this lovely gloss similar to DE leather while Fiebings is more matte. I'll be happy to outline the process if anyone wants to know!

Great job, any before picture?

Very cool. I have an alma and would love to try this(although I do love alma's with darker patina) but think I may be too scared. Do you have any idea if there there may be any dye transfer? Also how did you protect the canvas? You did a very nice job.

Would LOVE to see the process outline! Would especially like to know how you applied the dye near the rivets and canvas areas. TIA!

+1. I would love to know the process😀

Absolute thinks this is a excellent DIY project, I'm planning to get a mono alma but my budget is a little under $200 and at that price range, the vachetta leather are in bad condition. The only thing that worries me how saturate do you have to apply the dye? Cause I don't want the dye to bleed inside the bag, where the lining is. Secondly would color transfer happens, especially during the rain or humidity. Third did you use the Color Shine or just the Kiwi Leather Dye? Please share your dyeing process with us when you have the time!!

Also I saw a couple of ebay seller selling painted alma with black vachetta and also red!!!
