Yes it is. I didn’t know that for point of entry. I assumed since it’s all in one airline ticket it will go straight to the destination. It’s what they did for my flight to Italy with the same layover.
Yes outgoing the bags go straight through to your final European destination where you will clear customs/enter the city. On the US bound flight, you clear customs at your point of US entry, regardless of your flight itinerary. After you collect your bags and clear customs, the airline will allow you to recheck the bags immediately after to your final destination. When you check in in Rome, they will know and your tags will indicate it (fco-ewr-boston). It’s actually really seamless, you’ll be fine.

Hi I’m hoping to see if anyone can answer my question! It’s my first time doing the VAT refund from Italy to the USA. One of the items my friend and I bought was a dior saddle bag, a gift for our mutual friend. My friend was the one who purchased the item and used her passport for the documents. She only brought a carry on luggage and a small backpack so she’s unable to pack it into her things when we leave for the airport, so I’ll be using my checked luggage for it.

My question is: when we land in the US will customs want to see the bag there as well? We were thinking of checking my luggage with the dior bag after we declare it in Italy because she doesn’t have space. If US customs wanted to check the item it would be difficult to show the bag because I’m leaving to a different city (Boston) and having a layover at her destination (Newark), so my checked luggage wouldn’t even be left at Newark it’d be straight to Boston.
I‘m not sure if Newark or Logan will ask to see the bag, but omg, please DO NOT put the Dior bag (or anything of value) in your checked luggage!! Anything of value = carry-on only!

Hi all- am wondering if anyone here has ever dealt with a VAT refund form that was lost in the mail on its way to Global Blue? Five weeks ago I was in Europe and bought bags at Dior (Global Blue) and Valentino (Planet Payment). I got the forms stamped at the customs desk at the Amsterdam airport. The Global Blue location was closed due to staffing issues so I put the forms in their respective mailboxes and took photos of the forms before I did so. I've been trying to track them online - the Planet Payment one was received a few weeks ago and the refund is in process, but the Global Blue one doesn't have an update and I'm starting to get nervous that it's been lost in the mail. Has anyone ever been able to successfully use photos of a form to get the refund?

I dropped off my Global Blue VAT refund form for an LV item I purchased from Rome at CDG airport 3 weeks ago too but the status still shows Customs Validation Needed. I’m getting nervous too though I took a screenshot of the form with customs stamp before I dropped off in the mailbox at CDG. Hopefully I will get it soon.

That makes me feel slightly better - maybe they have a backlog currently? When I was in Italy summer of 2021 I had my refund in about two weeks from GB, and I put it in the mailbox at the Florence airport.

GB has a nice app, after I went through the scan of the form, I received email from them. But Chanel use different one, the app doesn’t has English version, so I didn’t download it. And I didn’t receive any email about any information for about 1 week. Anyone has similar situation, did you get refund?

Has anyone had a successful submission at the kiosk (green checkmarks) and had the Planet Payment status change
from: Your Tax Free form has been received successfully and we're processing your refund.
to: We are waiting to receive your stamped Tax Free form.
I've sent an inquiry already but wanted to see if anyone had a similar experience.

For reference, another VAT refund done at the same time with Planet has been paid (20 business days).
Global Blue was pretty quick, got my refund within a week.

The same thing happened with me for planet payment vat forms. Global blue refunds came through as expected. I wrote to planet payment and got the standard response that they would revert in 3 days. Nothing for 2 weeks. Then I wrote to Chanel Europe office and this is what I heard back from Planet payment soon after - I have checked Pablo site and can confirm that your Tax Free forms were scanned by Pablo machine, but unfortunately, your data was not transferred to our system. We will add these forms to our system and will issue your refunds as soon as possible. You don`t need to send us physical forms.

I received my refund within a week from this email. Hope this helps!

Thank you for sharing! That’s quite reassuring. Do you think contacting Chanel helped speed up the refund? I only have the form and without the custom stamp since I didn’t need them, so if Planet says they never received it I feel like I have no recourse.

Does anyone take a picture of the final kiosk screen as proof? I will have to remember to do that next time just in case.

Yes, I always did. I took pics of the screen below as proof just in case. I don’t think contacting Chanel will help with anything. I just came back from Paris about a month ago and my refund from Planet Tax took about a week vs 3 days from Global Blue. May be you can email Planet to follow up?

Came back from Paris and I got the Red Cross, went to the customs office and was asked to show the goods. Once I showed them he scanned the form and said I was good to go. I asked if I need to mail the form and was told no. I am now worried that I might not get the refund on my card. Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes, it happened to me last month on my over 1K refund form. The customs officer manually scanned it and also told me I was good to go and no need to mail the form. It was from Global Blue and it was the very first refund I received within 3 days after I got back home.
