Double or Single Flap?

Single flap. More practical. I have the double flap and I don't see the point of having extra flap besides just being another leather flap. Difficult to close (click button) and the chain leaves mark on the extra flap. I have light colored classic so maybe thats why. If you have black color it would not be a problem. Some people said that the extra flap helps to keep the outer flap in shape. Maybe, but mine is caviar. So, the leather tends to stay that way even though without a second flap.

Both are great, I mean, you can never choose wrong when it comes to Chanel! Although, a single flap is a lot easier for everyday use as there is one less barrier in the way when getting in and out of your bag. Also, unless you plan on leaving the flap undone most of the time, there isn't much of a need for an added flap to protect the contents of your bag. There are plenty of single classic flap bags on the resale market if you're interested in that particular style, some of which are vintage and even have the gold-plated CC turn-lock in front :drool:

Double flap! As already mentioned, it keeps it's structure and is totally classic. I have both in caviar (which I purchased new) and the single flap doesn't even come close to the double for durability. You will also keep your value in a double flap much more than a single.

Most of us have to get the double flap as the single flaps are no longer produced. But if you could find a single flap at a good price I’d say go for it!

For the price of one new double flap I got two single flaps! Beige Claire GHW & Black SHW both in caviar [emoji5] that felt so awesome. Now I’m looking to get another pair of Beige claire SHW in caviar & Black lambskin GHW! (Or other neutrals) Never thought I’m a jumbo girl until I got a single flap. For daytime it really beats the m/l.

I also have the mother’s double flap jumbo at home to compare & it’s heavy for me. Though most people don’t care much about the weight if you don’t mind they look pretty much identical but I’d say that the #13/14 series of caviar/lamb felt really nice & luxurious!

I don’t over stuff my bags so the shape is easy for me to maintain. I protect the interior with bag inserts. Caviar are durable & good bag spas can always restore the shape no matter.

Good luck dear I hope this helps[emoji4]

Definitely single flap. I only started purchasing Chanel about 10 years ago and started with preloved single flaps. Since then, I’ve also acquired 2 double flaps.

Double flaps are much heavier, have less capacity and are far more fussy. No good. Plus SF’s are cheaper (because they are only available resale) and manufactured at a time that most Chanel devotees would agree C quality was higher. So it’s win / win IMO!

When people say SF lose their shape, I always say “you gotta be kidding me.” Other brands don’t have these ridiculously double flapped bags yet they all seem to hold their shape. Is Chanel so poorly constructed that they need to have this extra convoluted construction? Of course not. Lol! If you store them lightly stuffed and upright, you don’t have any problems. All of my SF bags are all lambskin, over 12 years old and I’m at least the second owner. I wear them often and they still look brand new.

So, I’m a hard core SF fan. :yahoo: I would only buy another DF if I just HAD to have a classic flap in a unique current color.

When I bought my jumbo flap in 2008, I didn’t have a choice. It only came in single flap as far as I could tell. I’ve never had the double flap. I don’t know why people say the jumbo is heavy. My single flap is light and easy to use.
That is exactly when I got my first Jumbo too, and I had no idea that it was a double flap design originally. I found it very easy to use, although I kind of damaged the bag as it was pink lambskin and I was stupid. Now I just got a black double flap Jumbo and I find it quite bulky and a bit harder to use.

I believe the medium CF can only be had with a double flap, and that is the most “classic” size. If you go for a jumbo, there are single flaps in great condition in the secondary market. The single flap is lighter and better in terms of functionality because it’s easier to get in and out of, has a larger interior capacity, and you don’t have to deal with the snap closure. I prefer Lambskin and patent leather, however, and the single flap Lambskin bags just don’t hold their shape as well as the double flaps. I think that’s less of a concern with caviar. Double flaps also have better resale value, which may or may not be a concern for you. I agree with those who say the double flap is more quintessentially Chanel, but it does sacrifice functionality.
