She's never had children of her own despite her 51-year marriage to Carl Dean.
But Dolly Parton is very involved with kids thanks to her Imagination Library charity that donates books to youngsters from birth until they enter kindergarten.
Now the legendary 71-year-old country singer has release her first children's album I Believe In You, with proceeds going to Imagination, and she told ABC Today host Matt Lauer all about it on Monday morning.
'I have that high-pitched voice ... I look like Mother Goose or one of those over-exaggerated characters, and kids just relate to that,' she explained.
The effervescent star looked years younger than her age as she turned up at the New York studio in a tight leather jacket that emphasized her curvy shape and tight black pants.
Dolly revealed that her charity will soon be giving away its 100 millionth book, and that got her thinking about recording songs for children.
As for not having kids of her own, Dolly mused: 'God has a plan for everything.
'I think it probably was his plan for me not to have kids so everybody's kids could be mine. And they are now.'
Meanwhile, Dolly changed into a black dress with a criss-cross pattern of blingy diamante studs for her second appearance of the day on The View.
The 9 To Five star told Whoopi Goldberg and the ladies on the panel about her album.
Dolly explained that she had been writing songs for youngsters over the years as she helped distribute her Imagination Library books.
