Does wearing your bling make you feel more confident or more self-conscious?

i agree with you on this one. i honestly cannot understand why anybody would ask what the specs are (not on a forum, but in person). i mean, why would they care? everybody has different taste, therefore everybody will have different engagement rings. frankly, it's none of their business and i feel they only ask this to get an idea of what it costs.

Hey....I've had someone ask my DH what he's "having done" at a surgical clinic!!! Talk about "in-appropo"

Mind you, he's an "on the ball" kind of guy and told the nosey woman he's having his "3rd testicle removed as we have more kids than we can handle!!!" That shut her up & I'm willing to bet she never asked about anyone else's procedures ever again!

So, no, I'm not really surprised about nosey-parkers asking about jewellery specs......when someone asks me the price of a piece I'm wearing, I usually reply, "It was a gift"

^agree 100%!

I know this may sound strange, but, sometimes, wearing my bling makes me feel like I belong in certain environments. For example, when I go to Tiffany's, I always wear Tiffany pieces. When I go shopping on 5th avenue, I make sure to wear my better bling. When I go to little antique towns, I make sure to wear my antiques. Is that odd?
^I do something similar. for example, I "load 'em up" when I go shopping at NM. I want good service & no hassles.

^your DH is hysterical! I say the same..."it's a gift."

The more I think about it, the more I actually do use my jewelry to fit in. I know this sounds crazy, but I bought some used Frank Gehry jewelry on the chance that I would go to the Museum of Modern Art or Soho. I own the Axis necklace, bracelet and ring, so I can visit the MOMA in style! LOL! Boy, I am ridiculous!

Does anyone else associate their jewelry with a location or environment and use it to help them fit in?

I normally wear very simple clothes: Joe's jeans, Anthropologie or Ann Taylor shirt, black or gray pants, Coach shoes and my MBT's (yes- they are ugly but they are so comfortable). So, for me, jewelry is my fashion statement. Evidently, I have a preconceived notion on how people dress or act, so I always try to use my jewelry to fit in.

yes

no, I don't do that. but normally my jewelry is my fashion statement too...my jewelry, my shoes (unless I'm wearing flip flops :p), & my bag. I usually dress simply too.

Both!

Confident when I've gauged a situation correctly and worn something appropriate. For example, at black-tie events I appreciate the appreciation. KWIM? There's nothing snarky. Nothing judgy. Nothing envious.

Self-conscious only happens if I overbling. I don't wear anything but my most modest understated pieces when around certain people, or visiting certain places. Otherwise most would either assume they're fake...or judge me for being ostentatious/spoiled.

When I usually wear my bling it's only my wedding ring and maybe a Tiffany piece or two and it's at work. I rarely feel self conscioius and it doesn't make me feel confident.
Also, to me it's jewelry if lost or stolen can be replaced I don't put much emphasis on my jewerly as I do my handbags LOL. I wear my bling to work especially my ring always constantly helping men with their custom suits/shirts etc allows the men to know that I am married. :smile1:
