I've never associated the colors: blk/wht with waitress outfits.

Halloween "maid" costumes...maybe. (but, only if this includes an apron)

To me, a black & white ensemble equals "power/class", for some reason.

HAHA!!!
So I'm not the only one thinking that way!! I also have the feeling wearing white top + black pants makes me look like a waitress! But that's perhaps because in France and Belguim waiters often wear those colors...

No, it makes me feel like I should be playing a musical instrument in a symphony orchestra, a sad reminder that I do not have the musical talent to do such a thing, so I seldom wear black and white, and never a white top and black pants.

I feel like an overconservative French maid. :p

No, but seriously, I agree with Rebecca. I don't like the white top, black pants thing...it's a bit too..."stiff" for me, but a black or navy top with white pants or a white skirt, sure why not?

The only time I've worn white on top, black on bottom is during my piano recital... :push:

A black skirt and white shirt sounds very elegant. It's such a classic color combination. Besides, ti depends on the look of the garments. I'm sure your outfit is very classy. In order to have the waitress look, everything has to be loose and ill fitting.

ITA: it comes down to the cut and fit of the clothes.
