Does Carrying an Expensive Bag Give You More Confidence?

Not really. The bag I carry doesn't matter, but looking "put together" overall does make me feel better. I just feel gross when I look like I just rolled out of bed or didn't give much thought to my outfit for the day.

YES, because carrying an expensive bag makes us having a special, happy, grateful, and blessed feeling. This in turn directly or indirectly boosts our self confidence. For example, when I feel happy and blessed then I have higher level of self confidence. But at the same time, I might not carry an expensive bag just to boost my self confidence.

Not sure. I would probably have to say no.
I wear inexpensive shoes, secondhand clothing that ranges in anywhere between walmart brands and dillards, belk, etc. (I know, not high end). But of all things, I feel my handbag has to be a good bag. Cheap bags make me feel like I'm carrying nothing more than a paper bag. Maybe I just like the contrast of cheap beater/bum clothes with a pricier bag.

I don't think this thread asking "Is our confidence coming from carrying expensive handbag?" The question is "Does carrying expensive handbag give you MORE confidence?" its not a question of us being shallow or too materialistic. For example, I won't caught dead going to Hermes or Chanel store or going to a lunch meeting for business carrying one of those recyclable grocery shopping bags or the bag you can get free from perfumes & cosmetics.
I agree with this. The question is about, Dose carrying an expensive bag give you more confidence, than do you get all your confidence from carrying your expensive bag.
Totally agree with your answer! As people we are judged on first impressions by others who do not know anything about us. A beautiful bag is just one way to signal who you are and what you have achieved to those around us.
I think a fancy bag only gives confidence when worn in a wealthy area or to fancy stores or places. At least for me when worn in neighborhoods with mixed crowd or on train in nyc it attracts unwanted attention and makes me feel like a target. Anyone agree ? It is actually annoying to me that this happens because I don't feel I can wear it everywhere because of this !

Some people may get *over*confident wearing such pieces... witness the hapless tourists who get deep into clearly disreputable areas of big towns oblivious to the, er, attention the expensive cameras and bags they carry are drawing towards them.
Exactly. I mean, I have a stable and good paying job & my own bought house but I can't show my diploma, house deed or my paycheck to anyone just to prove that. Carrying our "dream bag" (let face it our dream bag doesn't cost $100 from ZARA or H&M) give us that extra boost of CONFIDENCE that convey a message "Yeah, I am proud and happy of my achievements.".
I understand what others say here that they don't feel safe carrying their handbag but keep in mind that is "fear" and not insecurities. In the same time again, we are not talking about insecurities but boost of confidence they we already have.

I just don't see the logic of spending that much $$$ for a handbag w/o feeling proud or confident for one self. Because if it just JOY we are after then we can achieved that w/o spending a cent or just get a knock-off.
